I'd keep a journal. When my hands were so acute years ago I was frightened too. But after I delivered my son, they seemed to return to a new "normal"... I have been protecting them ever since.
I can still go numb doing hand sewing or crochet. So I avoid that activity now. I sometimes have to wear my wrist supports at night. But that too, seems to cycle according to activity.
Wearing comfortable shoes also protects my feet. But socks still remain problematic for me.
