I use meditation but it's almost impossible to get into a deep meditative state at that point. It still helps but I find that I need to do many short rounds.
Breathing is almost the same as meditation so you can use control breathing. I find counting heartbeats between breathing the easiest and fastest. This give the mind something to focus on.
