After doing some reading up on it, it sounds like it is done with contrast dye - oops! Something I am allergic to.

I'm not sure if you have to have contrast dye for that. I had an LP under fluroscopy and there was no contrast, just the fluroscope X-Ray type machine for them to guide the needle between the vertebrae. Ask Braingonebad because she has had these shots, I think.
