It's C3/4 area of my neck.

After doing some reading up on it, it sounds like it is done with contrast dye - oops! Something I am allergic to.
I'm not sure if you have to have contrast dye for that. I had an LP under fluroscopy and there was no contrast, just the fluroscope X-Ray type machine for them to guide the needle between the vertebrae. Ask Braingonebad because she has had these shots, I think.

Thanks Holly. I looked at the procedure explanation on 3 or 4 different sites and it looked as if they all use the same procedure which includes injecting dye.

I remember the first time I had a blood patch done and the radiologist wanted to do using the fluoroscope. When I told him no b/c I was allergic to the dye, he freaked. Couldn't figure out how to find the LP injection site. I told him in my most pleasant pain filled voice, it's where the fluid is leaking! Geez! Once he took a look at the site, it was easy to figure out!

I know it wasn't leaking out my back, but it was pretty easy to figure out from the bruise and the site where the LP was done!

Thanks Curious!

cheryl,

it should be the same as when i had my lower back injected.
i didn't think he used dye. and, i've had an LP and they didn't say anything about dye then either.

and it was all done under fluoroscopy.
i had to stop my meds too. and they didn't want me to take aspirin or even my multivits to lessen any chance of extra bleeding. vit e also off limits. can't remember the rationale tho.

i hope this helps with your pain.
will be awaiting your report.

Thanks Judy. I am going to call the office in the morning to make sure. I don't want to get there Wed AM to find out they can't do the procedure b/c I am allergic to iodine/contrast dye.

They gave me a whole list of stuff I can't take as well. I understand about the aspirin and blood thinners, but not the anti-inflammatories. I guess I will ask. I am allergic to aspirin so that's not an issue.

The procedure is scheduled for 9:30 AM and I have meds I have to take and they said NPO for 4 hours prior which means I have to take my meds prior to 5:30 AM. Ok, I am usually awake anyway due to not sleeping.
