I had this happen with phone line pre DSL line days. It was a short where a line grew into a tree. A second time after the DSL I had crackling and it was the iciest day of year, and they found a short in the line along its travel.

Worth a call and get the lines looked over, anything before the house is their concern. Only after the inside area the home we need our protection for,
