If you are getting them and not eating at the time, you should be checked out by a ENT doctor. You may need to have a scope put down to look at your Esophagus tube.
Most likely MS spasms. Common, but check it out.
I take Clonazepam which helps with spasms but there are other meds like Levsin under your tongue, Bella-Donna and Phenobarbital. Try a Mylanta product to see if it is reflux of acid first.
I used to get spasms where the food, liquid or even a tiny pill would just stay in my mouth because all movement ceased in the food tube. I would wait until it started again to swallow. That has gone, TG. If I tried to swallow I would choke or lose my breathe. Very scary. And it hurt like a bunny.
