I am going to have a 7mm unruptured aneurysm coiled May 20th. I have hotel, air and rental car reserved in Hawaii for June 4th. I am wondering if I should be canceling (with a fee) or will I be ok to go???? Some sites say back to work in 5 days, others say 29 days recuperation. I am so confused. I don't want to cancel if I don't have to, I really want to go.
What are your opinions??? Thanks Myrna |

Hi
![]() our aneurysm forum is not one of our most active, but I hope one of the members who may have knowledge on this will be along soon to answer you. the forums are quieter as the weather gets nicer in the US ![]() From what I know, 4-6 weeks is the usual time recommended for recovery, but I have no personal experience so cannot be sure. have you asked the physicians who will be performing the procedure? I think they would honestly know best on whether you can keep your plans for Hawaii and also if it is safe for you to fly soon after the coiling etc. Your PCP's office may also be able to give you more info on this. here is also our New Member Introductions forum where it is very active, and perhaps someone there can be of help http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum88.html hope you get to keep your vacation plans and that it will be a wonderful way to recuperate ![]()

Hi Myrna,
Welcome to NeuroTalk! I'm sorry that you have a need to be here, but it's great that your aneurysm has been found and can be fixed! It's really hard to answer your question, as from what I've seen on the forums over the past few years it really is different for everybody as far as recovery goes. It all depends on exactly how your surgery goes and how your body personally responds. There are some people who return to work 2-3 weeks later, and others who take months. One thing that is common though is fatigue. Your body will want to sleep for the first few days - let it - your brain will want it and need it for it to heal. I agree with Chemar regarding your holiday so soon after your op - check with your neurosurgeon as to whether it will be ok to fly long distance so soon afterwards. I really hope you can go - what a great place to recover!! ![]() ![]() Nat xx |

Hopefully this message will find you doing great, cause I know this is 9 days after your surgery. And hopefully, you'll be able to make that trip to Hawaii. Speaking from personal experience, I had my annie coiled on Dec 4th, mine was 14-15mm unruptured, I don't think , in fact I know, I would not have been able to make a vacation 2 weeks later. But everyone's recovery is different...so you have to decide whats right for you. You and your Drs know what your capable of. My prayers are with you...and I'm praying you get to go to Hawaii, what a wonderful way to recoup from surgery... Laurie |

I hope things are going well with you today. If they are you are probably in the air. I have had to stents placed in my annnie and I am waiting for the coil. I know I would not have had the energy to fly. If you are there in Hawaii don't overdo and give yourself plenty of rest. ![]() |

I can't reply from experience, but I did go in for an operation with a 4 day expected length of stay and ended up being there 3 weeks.
![]() Do you have travel insurance, and if not, is it too late to take it out now? That might be a way of covering your bases as Hawaii certainly sounds like a nice place to spend your recovery period. ![]()
