I am scheduled for my trial SCS procedure tomorrow. What should I expect? Will I still be able to chase my 2 year old around the house? <--cane assisted. My wife is in the hospital, unexpectedly, but luckily its not serious. She wants me to still go get this done, considering our disability company has been giving us such grief about my scheduling of doctors appointments. I am a bit scared that I wont be able to care for my kids properly after the procedure. Although after the letters I have recieved from my Disability insurance company I am scared to have this appointment rescheduled again. This would be the 3rd time. 1st- Doctors arguing! 2nd- The Flu! ---We are afraid of not getting a check. Cant afford that to happen. Please give me an idea what to expect. Thank you.

You will definetly have limitations. What type of SCS are you having, meaning are you having a Laminectomy? Even if not ,you need to follow Dr. instructions after surgery or you will cause yourself many complications. The saying is to remember "B L T" No bending, lifting or twisting till scar tissue can form around leads and battery. How old are children? Are there any family or friends that can help you? Just be sure to talk to DR. and follow advice for Post-Op. Hope this helps-Carol

Hi Bossie-
I pray for wonderful results for your Trial! Having met with my surgeon as we prepare to move toward my own Trial, he was VERY forthcoming about expectations during the Trial. Basically, he said since the Trial leads are not tied down at all..... that is except by the tape on my back when the Trial begins, he urged caution. Rrae urged me to think TAPE.... put a little more tape on the lead emergence site even just to help me remember those wires are susceptible to being yanked by some kitchen cabinet handle protrusion. So, I think TAPE as I approach trial. Praying your wife recovers soon, that your Trial goes well, and that your little ones can be a little helpful during the Trial! Mark56 ![]() |

Here's wishing you the best for tomorrow's surgery!
![]() Not sure if you were aware that there is a forum here specific to SCS discussion...... for some reason today, I am unable to copy the link over here for you to click on..... In the main menu, it is listed as a subforum in the "Medications & Treatments" section.... There is alot of good info there! Feel free to start your own thread there, so we can 'follow' along with you as you go thru the healing process, etc.... We've learned so much from each other, simply by 'sharing' our own stories..... I wish you the best Praying for you and your family Rae |

when i had mine, the lead went in through the middle of my back and up to the base of my neck... the part of the lead sticking out of my body was about 2 ft long, and it connected to the remote... i pretty much had to move like frankenstein. had to sit straight, lay on only my back, and like the others said, no bending, lifting, or twisting... hell i couldn't even move my neck slightly or extend my arms fully... def no running... or picking up kids. i was also told not to drive. good luck with it. i had excellent results with the trial... but the perm made me worse/spread.... i hope you have better luck!
