I have posted in the new members section, you can see my story there.
The fact that i strongly suspect that my problems are symptoms of tbi, has caused a lot of problems for me. Every time i hit my head, even very lightly, i have to deal with huge panic attacks and uncontrolled anxiety and terror. A sense that every progress i have made regarding my tbi is ruined is taking over me. This is getting out of control and it ruins my mood every time someone gives me a friendly slap or when i have some kind of contact in sports. Any advice of how i can overcome this is welcome. Thank you in advance. |

My best advice is to stop playing sports until all of these symptoms subside. I am on 5 months since my concussion. Still struggling.
Personally, I plan on never playing basketball (my sport of choice) or any other contact sport ever again. The risk of going through PCS again is not worth it. I want to save what's left of my brain and you should feel the same. Still no guarantee I will recover fully but I remain hopeful. |

You should read some the Sticky threads at the top of the TBI/PCS forum Jones. They might give you some ideas that could help. Check out the Vitamin thread and the posts on hope and healing. You'll see you're not so alone.

Hi Jones,
I agree with Danny that you need to stop playing sports until the Attacks subside, but it is going to take much more than that. Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Fear of Fear, rarely goes away untreated, and feeds upon itself, making the situation worse. As you are finding this leads down the path to Depression, which further weakens your ability to cope with the Anxiety. While there are techniques to help, with your background and as a starting point for anyone with there issues, I urge you to see your GP as soon as possible for a referral to a specialist. You may be helped with Counselling, it may take meds, but leaving these conditions untreated invariably makes them much worse. I'm sorry I missed your introductory Post. Dave. |

I will certainly look for counselling if my insurance covers it! Thank you for your advice! |

Another powerful technique a fair number of us here use to strengthen our minds is Meditation. Here is a link to my Thread with and outside link to my teacher's site. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread215669.html I understand your trepidation regarding meds, they can have some pretty bad side-effects, but keep your mind open to all other ideas. Stay strong. Dave. |
