From what ive heard and felt about anxiety. It doesn't even seem to be a real thing. It seems to be a cultural attack on guilt and shame which are motivations for good behavior.
I could be wrong. But could someone please explain to me what anxiety actually is and what it is not? Is anxiety being afraid of failure or punishment? That doesn't sound like a mental health condition to me. It sounds like normal motivation stemming from the desire to stay alive. I understand panic attacks as a mental health condition. Hi jbartram_7
Although we have this section at NeuroTalk for mental health discussions, you may find our other forums over at PsychCentral more helpful, infomative, and supportive, as mental health is the primary focus there. They also have chat sessions with psychologists and a lot more. Here's the link to the PC forums. You will need to re-register there, but you can use the same info as here. Forums at Psych Central Hope this proves helpful to you in your quest for answers |

OP: I read some of the posts here and I have a hard time reading them...how so many put pressures on others for support etc...... I had what was called a panic attack I think in 2005, and my daughter was going thru some TOUGH STUFF in her life and I believe it affected me. I got to work on myself and have not had another one.
I forever go to the Motto: No News Is Good News There are so many aids today from so much Talk Therapies and Meds and OTC supplements to keep the body in a Calm place. and MEDITATION does wonders....sad so so few work at this one. |

I used to go to a therapy group for people with mood disorders.
Its members with Generalised Anxiety Disorder found that using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy methods (which the clinical psychologist who led it taught) was very helpful.

A saving Grace in my life was finding and getting involved with Science of Mind back in the 80's, talk about an education on working to fix the mind so one can live in MUCH LESS fear and anxiety etc...too bad the world doesn't have these principles. Or these principles aren't available more for everyone. I don't know if SOM is in Australia but I'm thinking yes....it's worldwide but in larger cities.
