Default Hey anyone heard about the Parkinson's Recovery Project?

I came across their site. Scary stuff!! Makes you wonder what we're doing to ourselves.

I don't have PD (I have MS/Lyme) but I was on Sinemet for 9 years. It took almost a year overall but I was able to transition from Sinemet to Mirapex and then to other anti spasmodics for my legs.

Now hopefully my dopamine system can recover.

Yes, you are right, it is scary stuff. These drugs are huge and we haven't figured out how to cope with them well yet.

But beware of the "nocebo" effect, too. I feel that nobody, no matter how informed, has the power to dictate the course my body will take and the healing possible, except for that that I allow. SO despite very informed, yes, but dire predictions, it doesn't mean that you can't heal, even if you are on medication. And I question the wisdom of descriptions like that touching a person with PD feels like snakes are crawling under their skin - I mean, a little negative? Especially considering how especially vulnerable we are to judgment, and negativity - out positive mental status is way more important than even the meds.

A previous thread that is very good counter-reading to Once Upon A Pill:
