You have to create a new game?

Hmmm. Well, ok, I just thought of this. A game where this thing rotates and fish open their mouths and have a magnet in them and you pretend to fish and make the end of your rod go into the mouth when it's opened, and you retrieve the fish and the person with the most fish wins...well don't do that cause it's been invented, but......

What if you used those fish and put numbers on the bottom of the fish, skipped the annoying rotating thing the real game uses and the players could race across a fake pond you could draw. Maybe lily pads or rocks could be used to represent each square/space in kayaks. Besides numbers on the bottom of the fish, you could have other things....like PLUNK means your kayak tipped and you have to start over, SWITCH let's you switch places with another player. Now, at the end of the pond is Niagra Falls, so the LAST person on the board wins.

Anyhooo...it's pretty juevenile, I'm sure it could be more interesting and challenging - it's needs more strategy, but I just thought of it so said it.

Well, I'm pretty sure it came to mind cause I've been fishing with Vince all summer - which I never ever thought I'd do....then yesterday fell out of a kayak into the lake.

I think the game has a decent base, but definately needs strategy or a more adult like feel...maybe borrow stategies from other games and combine them. I don't want to insult anyone's intellegence, I was just talking off the top of my head yesterday but I did like the idea, glad you're pondering it.

Baaawawawawa! Get it? PONDering.

WAIT, Hey, maybe you could name the game that!!!

Oh hey, there's this one game I love, you could find it on yahoo....maybe you could make a game out of it actually....it's called Feeding Frenzy. Basically, you are a fish, and you eat - or get eaten. I'd love that game....not sure how you could switch it from a puter game to board game but I'm sure you could figure out how.

What about getting a big piece of foam-board, cutting holes of different shapes/sizes in the board, outlining those shapes in different colors....

Then there are at least 2 games I can think of that can be played with the foam board with colored cut-outs.

1. You tell the player to place a marble in the (insert shape here) or in the (insert color here) or in the (insert shape and color here). In a square, in a green space, in the green square.

2. You could tell the player to roll a marble - to either aim for a particular shape/color, or to just randomly roll the marble and get points based on what shape/color or area of the board the marble rolls into.

You could also make the foam board so that there are only cut-out circles of various sizes, and rolling the marble to get in into a cut-out area gets points based on how big the circle is that they land in (the smaller the cut-out circle, the higher the points since it is harder to hit a smaller area). If you know your way around a woodshop (or know someone who does) you could of course use wood instead of foam board.

Also, instead of telling people what shape/color to put the marble into (or to roll the marble into) you could make up cards that have colors/shapes on them and the player could draw a card and then do what the card says.

Another variation is to get a really fun rug that has colors and shapes (Ikea has some great rugs like this), and to throw bean bags at the particular colors/shapes.

Those are just off the top of my head... if I think of anyhting else I'll let you know.

Liz

Liz... I should add that some of my people are swallowers... so I think marbles may be a problem. Some with definately try to mouth them... and they don't have the cleanest of hands.

Here is what I came up with...
Mind you I have a few interns to help me (I belive they will show up since I will offer them something really cool)
casino... I set up a few tables playing holdem, 21, roulette and maybe poker. I can do all this for cheap, my biggest concern is making paper chips...lots of work there! The patients come in and get to play for a half hour or so, I make chips from paper and they win tickets. Would be so cool though... I would be a pit boss I would make the poker tables really colorful and such (artsy) and we would wear appropriate costuming.

Concerns/Problems is that the hospital will probably say no gambling. .. even though there are other games that are doing exactly that (two horse race games I know of). I can support why this would be a much better (healthier) game... but I may get nowhere with that.

Second: HErmit crab races... I would have to get someone to lend me or rent me the crabs for cheap, but I would make a big round racetrack, the crabs race from the middle out... I would have zones to race too. I would have cute names for each crab, maybe tape numbers to their shells.
Concerns/Problems: Patients might try to swallow crab, Patients may freak out over crabs (either I doubt will happen) third and biggest concern... crabs may refuse to race do to temperature that day.

Third:
I had originally thought of just stealing the horse race game and making it into a car race game... use model cars and such. Its no more fun than the horse race, and will seem sort of pathetic in comparrison

anyone have any ideas about the paper chips... I would need a few hundred and would love to put the hospital name or initials on them

Keggy,

I suppose marbles are a bad idea with swallowers - sorry about that...

What about doing it on a bigger scale? a bigger board would mean being able to use bigger balls that can't be swallowed (or can't even fit in a mouth).... or you could use some sort of round candy as the rollers instead of marbles.

about the paper chips.... - what about getting a large circle punch and punching out circles from the thin foam board (I'm a big fan of foam board, can you tell?) The foam would be heavier than paper, last longer, and with a large hole punch (can be found in the scrapbooking aisle) would be easy enough to do.

As fo adding the hospitals name to the chips - it's fairly easy to get one of those "return address label" self-inking stamps that come with letters/numbers so that each person can make it to have their name/address on it (you can definately find these at Staples) and you could use that type of stamp to make the hospitals name (or initials at least) to stamp it on the chips.

LOL candy would last about 5 seconds!! But on a positive note, I wouldn't have to call a code if they ate one.

If I can find an easy way of making the chips... and my boss says yes to the idea ... I could make a stamp out of lots of things, just don't want to cut out a few hundred circles.

I had looked up a circle punch on the internet and found a few, not looking to spend that kind of money especially since I would have to wait for it... but if he yes's the idea a scrapbook store is the way to go... great idea!

Worse comes to worse I will print up some snazzy buisness card paper chips... at least they will look really cool.
