http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ad.php?p=55158
at the risk of repeating myself, be advised that (AS THE TITLE SAYS), the subject is about suicide in children. You have BEEN WARNED.

hi omt...

a mod didn't make the change. but the trigger icon is used for many things that might not go with the forum it was posted on. suicide is very triggering to many. that topic is expected to be seen in the survivors of suicide.

it's just meant as a warning. it doesn't make there anything wrong with your posts. it is very good information.

Well, what I meant was that the trigger icon can't keep ANYONE from reading the title. And I didn't keep from using it because others here use it and because if I didn't use it in the title, someone might accidently click on the LINK. So the title shows the topic.

Now, if my title had been ambiguous -- if it gave no hint of what the link was going to be about, then I would have automatically used it, not wanting anyone to be distressed. And that was why I didn't post the article here.

The point is, if someone is triggered (REALLY triggered, not just offended), they sure aren't going to open the darned thread to begin with....

The trigger icon just seemed REDUNDANT.
But if this forum needs redundancy to feel safe from harm....

Teri

"Survivors of Suicide" is the last and worst place for it to be. Once a child is dead, all the information and warning signs will do nothing but make parents feel guilty and/or angry because it comes to late.

Better in Bipolar children because they are the children most at risk. I was a suicidal teen and tried to kill myself several times. One of my sisters has made several very serious attempts on her life. My brother drove headon into a telephone pole.

My bipolar daughter has slashed her wrists before she was 12. My grandaughter, at 13, has played the choking game and has been suffering from depression. She gave every sign of being bipolar from her earliest childhood.

I feel very seriously about the subect. Parents and teachers especially need to know a great deal about the signs of impending suicide. I used to often be furious at my high school teachers. I KNOW my abuse and my futility and degree of depression showed. No one could have missed it. And if one my math or English teachers had bothered to take the time to even ask me if anything was wrong, I just may have reached out for help to save myself and my sisters.

Post Dear Teri

Dear Teri,

I want to express my thanks to you for posting the article. Also to say I'm sorry for your distress, and for the way suicide has impacted you and your family.

Suicide is a Major Issue for bipolars and... in this case i think all would agree here... prevention is better than cure.

Information on child bipolars is useful to those of us here who are parents and possibly so close to the situation, may not see the forest for the trees. Being confronted with information in black and white can, sometimes, help a person "wake up and smell the coffee" ... before it's burned.

I think this information is also useful to any who are considering becoming parents. Even a single individual might benefit, by understanding their childhood better.

However, I do feel that this post would also be useful in the SoS Forum, and relevant to the Depression Forum too.

These are only opinions, mine, of me one, single individual, but there they are.

Take care, Teri.

Dear Teri,
Thank you for posting this.
I wish we watched out for our children.
We have much to learn.
