Thumbs up I got the H1N1 shot at work

HI,
That is one less thing for me to worry about now.
Hubby got it too.

That was bothering me. I can be done with that.
'Still want to get the seasonal vaccine. I think that Walgreens has it but I was putting it off.

It takes about 3 weeks for the vaccines to take effect.

Thumbs up Hi Mari

I am glad that you feel better / safer now, Mari.

It is not available to the general public in this country. It is available for certain groups that are considered "at-risk". It might be compulsory for certain professions but not sure. Doctors are among those, and hospital personnel. Originally many were refusing it, so there was some hup-de-do about that but not sure what happened. I try to avoid news.

I have never had any flu vaccine in my life... personally i'd rather not have any kind of infectious albeit half-dead stuff purposely shot into my body. I guess that's a hangup of mine.

HI,
It's just that I come in contact about 75 people a day and many of them live in the dorms (tight quarters). They sit at my desk with me, borrow my pens, . . .. lots of touching and breathing in each other's space. . .. .
And this flu seems to be spreading in that age group.
The vaccine was supposed to go to high risk groups first, but at some distribution points / areas, the vaccine is available now.

I've never had a flu shot either.
But I am feeling vulnerable in a very general sense since July.

Red face Mari

I think you would be one in of the eligible professional categories here.

I wasn't trying to bash your getting the shot at all. I'm sorry if it came across that way. I probably shouldn't have said the bit about my not wanting it.

I am just glad that it is over with and you will feel (and be) safer.

Waves,
You are fine.
I'm fearful -- since hospitalization. That's all it is.

Trig Rant about Speech Therapists

Hi,

I left the session sad and mad.

1. The therapist gave me a worksheet to take home that covers the same ground as the therapists in the hospital did with me. I did that exercise perfectly two days after the stroke. They would know that if one of them gave me a diagnostic test like I had asked.

2. The therapist told me to move my mouth more. She said that when she talks she is more animated than I am. That was useful because I was not aware of that. But we also need to factor in the braces. Hello! You can see them and you can see I have a hard time with them! And someone how her suggestion came out as criticism. We are not a good match for each other.

3. Then she said I was being too hard on myself. She told me to compare myself to a certain person on the national news (not going to say it here) who is horribly messed up and told me I should consider how other people are.
I was leaving anyway, but I grabbed my purse and said, "That was not helpful." Then I started crying and made a big scene.

So I will either drop out or start back again with the internist to find a new place. 'Messed up my day. I should stay in bed except for when I need to be at work.

Wow Mari that was a bit rich of the therapist. Sometimes they just don't get it do they? They blame you for their ineffectuality and inability to actually help you to get somewhere.

Whatever else they can't accept that it might be their doing that you aren't getting better as quick as they want you to.

You need to tell them that not everyone is a textbook case and that if they expect them to be, they are being unrealistic and have romantic notions about their own ability.

Hey please keep us posted on how you feel with the flu shot and how it makes you feel.

I am supposed to have it being in the Chronic Disease category, but I have resisted it all along. My intuition is saying "Warning will Robinson, Warning".

Then again it might be my anxiety and not my intuition at all!

((((hugs))))

indeed she sounds rather abrasive.

Excuse me? Sounds like SHE's the one being too hard on YOU. i think more than anything you are frustrated, and i can totally understand that. if you are being hard on yourself it is because you have high standards... you may need to accept a slower pace, but i see nothing wrong with trying to get well. if you quit while you're behind, how could that ever help.

no shtt... i *** HATE *** that "others got it worse than you" dealy.

i'm glad you said that. i don't know how you feel now about the scene, but maybe it's good that you got it out... and let her know how you were affected by all this.

Please, don't give up. You want to get better. I want you to get better. Time is of the essence too, as hated as that is. Get with the internist to find a new place. I am wondering if you can also go through other professionals - your tdoc, pdoc... word of mouth. You need someone who knows how to be GENTLE.

I'm really sorry. I wish you could. i hope you can find something soothing to do now. if not, maybe just rest. put on something cozy and soft, and climb into bed for a while and just rest, even if you do not sleep.

Get started finding a different place and speech therapist.

This is not acceptable.
