Di,

I am so sorry. Losing such steady companions suck!

In October my 14 year ond Spaniel died of malignant tumours in his ears.
It was like as if he held on till the very last minute before he just had to leave. His eyes would struggle and struggle to stay open the last few hours.
He would get restless if we were not all in his line of vision. Then late in the evening he closed his eyes. We waited for many long minutes to check for sure that he was gone.

We have another fourteen year old female Spaniel now. The two had come together from two different litters when they were just over six weeks. She is ageing. Her hind legs have no strength, so she needs to be carried wherever she wishes to go. We should be accepting of the fact that she is on her way away. Since her partner died she has lost a lo of herself.

But now we have a devil in our midst - a now ten weeks old black Spaniel with deep tan markings. He is maaaad. Greedy, playful, attention-grabber, totally demanding - everything a happy puppy should be.

So for the past few months we've been reaching emotional highs and hitting troughs - sad reality of loving pets.

I hope you enjoy reading it when you can.
