cold and Tiger Mosquitoes
DiMarie, i'd gladly take a week of subfreezing temps from ya, just so it would kill off all the mosquitoes. No, it's not like there are a lot, but the fact is it used to be cold enough here during winter, to exterminate them. Without this seasonal kill-off, we are going to be inundated when spring comes.
Part of the problem is that for several years now we have had a growing population of a type of the Tiger Mosquito. It is bigger, feistier, and "hunts" day and night (as opposed to dusk onwards). This mosquito is also more resistant to adverse conditions including cold, so we really need a good deepfreeze that will kill it and kill any larvae... At the same time, our overall warmer temps year-round perhaps explain how this mosquito was able to spread here - it originates in warmer regions of Asia. :( Dern BUGS! ugh! :hissyfit: Oh! and the stings from this one are worse than from "regular" skeeters - they itch to the point of pain, scarcely respond to regular treatment (even cortisone!) and take 7-10 days to remit considerably. Some people, when they receive new stings, also experience a re-inflammation of older/existing stings. This thing has crrrrazy venom!!! ~ waves ~ |
mosquitoes?!
Waves,
Do they stay outside or do you have them inside as well? Here's hoping you get a deep freeze soon. M |
Funny you mention that Waves. We have had a substantial mild two winters. This few days a polar drift. Comes down is not enough to kill abundance of bugs either. I don't suspect we have the Tiger misquito but it is resisting the cold. Dd and I had two bites last weekend, and right before Christmas it was 60* and that weird lady bugs came out.
Maybe before Sprong we may luck out with a ground freeze and it will help kill the bugs. Di |
Roflol
Oh this cracked me up so bad!!! :ROTFLMAO:

YEARRRRIGHT!:D Ok, so the real deal is, we have screens, so it's not like every time we open a window they come in. but we keep stuff on our mini-terrace, and have to go in and out daily. so sometimes something flies in. my mom got bitten, and she later killed it... inside. i saw one in the subway the other day. I had to flap it away from me a couple of times. But it's the ones you don't see that gitcha, i'n'it? ~ waves ~ |
oh my!
