Its odd weather here in Indiana too.

So not sure what to think. We are having another 6 weeks of winter.

Hmmm, we are not sure we have seen winter much yet.

Cloudy here.
The folks on the radio said that means six more weeks of snow birds.
>bad joke<

Default Where is the rain and snow?

Hi,

So far in the lower 48 US states, this is looking to be one of the warmest winters on record. The problem beyond the lack of cool nights is that we are missing snow and rain. Our precipitation got lost.

M

Quote:
The lower 48 states have for the most part recorded a mild winter. Locally, the month of December finished 11.2 degrees above average and the month of January is currently running about 10 degrees above normal. If February records temperatures this mild, the winter of 2011-2012 will challenge the winters of 1986-1987 and 1930-1931 as the warmest winter on record.

Yet, as we enjoy one of our warmest winters since 1881 in the Red River Valley, other parts of the world have not been so lucky. As a general rule, if one part of the Northern Hemisphere is well above average, you will almost always find another area that is recording the opposite extreme. For example, on January 17, parts of the northern Sahara Desert received an unusual snow event of several inches.

Plus, much of India has experienced a very cold winter with temperatures averaging 10 to 15 degrees below normal, with Bangalore recording their coldest January on record to date. The cold Indian winter has created much hardship for millions of people.

I was just reading about all of the bad weather in other areas of the world. They said that when one area experiences unusually low activity another area will experience high activity.

they have been forecasting a record cold winter since the 1950's here also, but i am not seeing such low temps thus far... not really sure about surrounding areas though. weather stuff is integrated with the other news, which i stay away from. the forecast is separate and that's what i see. the forecasts have been for singledigit and even sub-zero temps (*F) - that would be extraordinarily cold for here.

so far, looking at 28* here today... just cold enough to keep the snow frozen. nothing extraordinary so far. not where i live anyway.

and it's only 9 am and the sun is coming out, so we'll see what happens. it may be another day of slush.

Today once again our story is Fog. Wow, it would be so interesting
if this is what we continue to get all winter.

We have another 2 hour delay this morning.

I'm up because I'm supposed to go to a case conference almost 2 hours
away. Trying to figure out how to get ahold of the mom. Ugh, she
only gave me her work phone number.

I will not put myself in danger this morning either, and I don't think
she would expect me too.

Feel bad though because its a expulsion in the end, if the beginning
doesn't find in students favor.

Default and that cold North Wind begins to blow...

well finally we are down in the twenties - 21*F this morning. windchill is in the single digits. a strong North Wind is coming through today and next few days.

no more snow forecast (fwiw, "forecasts" having been totally haphazard lately) but what is down will ice. not good for travellers. i am a little detached because i don't have to drive in it. i just have to walk a little way when i go to pdoc's next week.

and today when i go to the pharmacy. i went to mdoc last night. it was already below freezing. re-discovered that air that cold puts me in coughing fits, it only takes a minute out in it too.

(((Donna))) i love fog and we get a lot of it here, but it's even worse than snow w/ regard to travel - it can be deadly. So, i hear you about staying home. i hope everything goes ok for the student.

Smile rain tonight

Hi,
During the day, dark clouds had been moving in and out. Is it possible I got a headache from the change in barometric pressure?
Tonight (Friday night) I awoke at 11:00 pm from a nap and heard rain. Rain is beautiful.

Dear Waves,

I like hearing about your conditions of wind chill and iced snow.
That is good you can stay in and avoid the cold.
