i took abby out of the crate. she ate and was able to jump up on the chair and then table. then she jumped on the sofa and is sleeping or resting on the top of the sofa where luc can't get to her. I feel relieved. hope she sleeps all day.

Dear Bobby,
i was just answering your other post and see that Abby is out now... glad she ate and is resting now. eating is a very good sign that she is coming back to normal. i actually think her agitation was to do with being crated. she can't understand how there was a safety issue. she may be calm in the carrier etc, when in unfamiliar surroundings, but being crated at home sweet home most likely felt crazy to her. i think her scrambling to try to get out of the crate, in this context, is a normal fight response, where the adrenaline is enough to overcome the lingering effects of the sedative. we had to sedate a stray once, to take him to the vet and... boy! we put the sedative in his food. and after a while he was toast - he would loll about and fall over, but he was still fearful of contact/proximity with people, and when we would go to pick him up, he would shoot off like a rubber band! sprint for a hundred yards then collapse. this went on for about an hour when we finally caught him and got him into the carrier. not over. he then fought me for the entire 45 min trip in the car. at the vet's he totally chilled out. my arms were completely cramped from having to put up opposing force to his violent headbashing (you would NEVER have guessed he was sedated, at that point!). he destroyed the carrier - it was only cardboard but held up fine to 'normal' resistance... not this. sweet ending to the story (might as well share, having said this much)... the reason we took him in was he was physically deteriorating in spite of eating lots and constant hunger. turned out he had worms - the vet treated him - he gained back weight, got his proper fur color back and coat became shiny... and he became a PEOPLE CAT! when we got home from the vet and let him out, he didn't fly off like we expected. he came and curled himself around our legs and purred. and from that day on, the second we would get within sight of him, he would run up and rub up against us and purr. anyway, Bobby, you are doing very well with all this new responsibility. there have been unexpected complications, but you are dealing with it. things are going to smooth out soon so you will be able to breathe easier. i am so glad Abby is doing better. love ~ waves ~ |

Dear Bobby,
You and Abby, Luc, and Yuki have done well. I like that Abby is sleeping and doing so on the top of the sofa where she is inaccessible to Luc. M. |

yesterday went amazing well between luc and abby. he left her alone for most of the day and only bothered yuki a little bit. i on the other hand am feeled with anxiety. one of the main reasons i got luc was to be forced to go outside and walk him. he will get his shot on tuesday and then i will have to walk him four times a day probably or at least three times. i am so worried and scared. I am also scared of taking him to the vets, worried that a cab won't stop for me with the large carrying case etc. i have generalized anxiety disorder besides post traumatic stress and bipolar II. I have to keep on telling myself that God is with me. and repeat and repeat it. I hope today goes okay and Luc still doesn't try to mess with abby.

Dear Bobby,
Abby is not going to be giving off the pheromones she was before she was spayed. And she will behave differently. Both things will affect Luc and he will inevitably behave differently too. I think the waiting is probably the hardest part as far as walking luc. usually anticipation is good but it can be bad, like for a test or an operation... or exercise you aren't used to. but it will be ok. you will get over that hump. it won't be the same as when you go out to the post office or pharmacy or bank, because you will have Luc to focus on and keep company with. and cabbies will stop for you... they take people with mounds of heavy luggage... what's one doggy carrier! but if you are worried you can always call a cab in advance, just for peace of mind. love waves |

just woke up from a nap....was in a terrible depression but when i woke up it was gone...what happened...thanks for the suggestions...i think luc is a very bright dog and is constantly testing his limits. he definitely know what no means. i guess i am panicking over everything. i shouldn't be. God is with me. even about abby being spade. my vet is going on vacation next week so the timing was perfect...I have a volunteer who calls me every week and she is so delightful. we speak for an hour. last night in my questioning it turns out she is the product of an alcoholic family ...it was her father who is now sober for eight years and her mother did nothing and now she is best friends with her mother. God is really with me. I don't know how to handle my depressions. I thought having Luc would make a world of difference. HA.
also reading Rabbi Nachman would make a world of difference...ha talking with my new friend once or twice a week would make a world of difference. ha. I am back on topamax and risperdal but on a lower dosages. I need them. bobby |
