Pam

How would it help your health though?

If it still has the nicotine in it?

I am curious because my daughter in law smokes and I've been trying
to get her to ask for the drugs to try and stop.

But she needs something in the cigarette, if that makes sense.

health hazards of smoking

Dear Donna,

the nicotine - which is the only thing in the vaporizer - is what gives the "feeling" but it isn't the worst part of smoking. nicotine is the reason for physical addiction and part of the reason for psychological addiction, but beyond that, i'm not actually sure what its actual health hazards are. it may be a carcinogen... chewing tobacco and cigars (not inhaled) are both associated with increased incidence of oral cancer.

the worst parts of smoking - the parts that causes lung cancer and emphysema - is the other stuff in cigarettes/cigars: tar and additives, combined with the heat of smoking.

if you've ever known anyone who rolls their own, you might notice the cigarettes tend to go out. this happens with high quality cigarettes and cigars too - fewer additives. they use additives in both the paper and the tobacco, to keep cigarettes lit, and many of those have been identified as carcinogens and also directly linked to emphysema.

then there is the heat/tar combination. when you inhale from a cigarette, you inhale hot smoke, containing vaporized tar. the heat from the smoke actually seals it onto your lung tissues. very ooky business. most cigar smokers do not inhale the smoke. you aren't "supposed" to. but some do.

It's better for you in that there is no burning tobacco, now they have various strengths of e-juice/flavored catridges and you can get all the way down to 0 mgs of nicotine so you're just getting the vapor and 'feeling' of smoking. That is what I want Mom to do, slowly wean herself OFF nicotine and to enjoy the 'feeling' of smoking while STOPPING the damage being done to her body. They say that your sense of smell returns about two weeks after your last actual cigarette and you get your stamina back too. All the while you no longer SMELL like an ashtray because the vapor is odorless. :)

Interesting. I might have to check in to how expensive it is.

Dear Pam,
It cam be stressful to deal with people close to you who are not taking care of their health in ways we want.

Keep doing what you need to do to make yourself happy.

Donna, I did a cost analysis and if the kit and supplies we buy for $82 bucks shipped lasts a year (thinking it will because it comes with two batteries and he won't be abusing it with higher resistance attomizers like people do to improve taste) we're looking at saving a little over $150 bucks. Savings increases if it lasts longer and we can find cheaper supplies for it. There are literally hundreds of vendors online, if you need help tell me a little about her smoking habits and I might be able to help you pin down what will make her happiest. :)

I know he's gonna be an example to Mom that is a given, she and I have already talked about e smoking and she's sort of interested, hoping that will translate into motivation when we get her a kit around her birthday. :) I won't be using it as I stopped smoking five years ago, but if it can get the smell of stinky cigars OFF Jack and OUT of our house by giving Jack the ability to vape (that's the going slang for e cig smoking, vape or vaping) no longer igniting some tobacco and making his breath smell like an ashtray, well I am all for it, that's why I've spent the last week educating myself on what is involved in this so the people I love who smoke will have an easier time making the transition to e cigs because they get one that will work out for them and KNOW how to drip e juice into the attomizer or to fill catridges, both of which are neccesary skills to have. :)

I wish they had had these around when I gave up smoking, I suffered so horribly, THIS would have helped so much. But like Mari suggests, I hav eto do what makes me happy, and this week has been a lot of fun, I really have been embraced by the online vaping community and they are ALL great people, very nice and very helpful. I couldn't have learned all I have without them, if you want a link PM me and I will send it so you can check out this board, you don't have to join, you can just lurkif you want to. Or go to youtube and run a search on e-cigarettes, lots of info out there. :)

Dear Pam,
You are now our residential expert on e cigs. :)
I'm glad you found good tools for Jack and your mom.

Hi pam

I am new to the site. I am another florida person. where are you located. I am on the gulf coast, very hot this summer, without much rain really. Ever heard of AnnaMaria? It gets over looked for florida vacationers but now is becoming very popular because our beaches were not in jeopardy of the oil. We got all the tourist from the panhandle. Glad to meet you pam, Ginnie
