Default Ugh I could scream

Medco seems to have cancelled Derrick's prescription insurance.
I hope this doesn't mean all his insurance is cancelled. I have no
clue why they just decided. Unless its because he turned 19 in
June. Because it seems they terminated the day before his birthday.

But they are supposed to ask if they are still in school and all that.
And I could swear there is some new program that keeps insurance
till they are 23. Or something like that.

So I couldn't get his seroquel. And to top it off the zonegran brand
name is no were to be found in the town. So they had to order it.
And then we have to fight this to get insurance to pay for it.

Or hope medicaid will override his other insurance not covering it.

Dear Donna,
It looks like he sort of fell through the cracks because of his birthday.
Is he on a state insurance plan?
This is a hassle but it is going to get resolved at some point.
Maybe you are going to need to fill out some more paperwork.
Will there be an office open on Monday that you can visit or call to get this straightened out? Do you go to a Medicaid office or do you deal with them on the phone?

The new health care law passed in Jan allows children to stay on their parents' plans until they are 26 but the law does not take effect until Sept.

Does he have a doctor who can give him samples of the Seroquel and Zonogram while you wait for the paper work on them and for the pharamacy to find the Zonogram?

'Sorry Donna. This is nerve wracking and frustrating.

Dear Donna,

you mentioned in the other thread the pharmacy offered to give you a few seroquel to tide you over but you declined it because you thought he had some. but he doesn't. i bet if you go back to the pharmacy and tell them you realized he is out, that they will still make good on the offer to give you some.

i would call both Medco and Medicaid. Ask Medco why the insurance was cancelled and what would it take to get it reinstated with continuous coverage.

the Zonegran is going to be a pain... dunno if you can get samples maybe monday from the doc's. meanwhile something that might help Derrick - passing on a suggestion from Sue (Porkette) from the E forum, who took part in a study regarding the role of brain temperature, yawning, and seizures. the basic conclusions were that seizures are often associated with increased brain temperature. Sue has found that applying a cold wet cloth to her face and neck 3 or more times a day helps reduce her seizures. also does Derrick eat a lot of starchy/sugary foods and/or consume nutrasweet (could augment seizures)? finally does he take B supplements - in some cases B12 - but i've also heard B6 from another poster ... best to give a full B complex, can help reduce seizures. the last two things might not have an immediate effect, but the cold cloth will, because it keeps brain temp down. here is a post from Sue, where she talks about it: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post677488-10.html

if you need more information on that, or on her experience in the study, please post to Sue (Porkette) on E, or pm her in which case tell her waves sent you.

Another poster there, Tattoo, has some experience with getting meds through different local resources. here is a recent post on that: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post647691-3.html

good luck with everything, Donna. i'm sorry this is happening to you and to Derrick. i hope he holds up ok. you hang in there. i know you will get it worked out.

Thanks you guys.

I don't know what I would do without you. I really appreciate it.

My husband is going to call Medco and the Union insurance company
Monday. And his Union BA as he calls him. He is mad too. He wanted
to handle that part.

I have to ask Derrick's psychiatrist if she will say its medically necessary
is what I think the pharmacist said. The thing with that was. I thought medicaid didn't cover seroquel. But I guess they do. I so I have to work
on that. Or I believe that the pharmacist said, they would even call
Monday and get that taken care of. Which they are going to have better
luck with that than I will.

And yes if, and when I go back, they will give him some to get by.

THey have always taken care of us.

Donna
