hi

thank you for the thread and for the thoughts...

yes this whole week was 'heavy' ... TGIF to the nth power.
math geek.
yeah, just not as smart.

that aside. leaving hard... until the last 2 days, then... very revealing. clent took my direct contact information. my boss and his boss each told me they would call me if funds for the project were available ... reason given totally did not match what contractor says... funny that. but they requested info, including expiration date of the contract i am starting - i.e. my "next availability."

my boss looked the docs i sent him and was good with them.
i was able to get some really important parts working before leaving that was satisfying.

the new job is totally different environment... building is not ours, we are in the basement but well furbished, A/C good bathroom.... snack/bev machines and coffee are a good walk upstairs... not sure how to get a caffeine fix fast if i need one.

the 'boss/lead' can be intense, engaging... strongly... but so far he has done things in a way that has been helpful... getting me acquaited with things, with what i'd be doing or tasks i'd be acquiring, and communicating that to the people involved. so apparently for tomorrow they have something for me to start with... i hope to goodness it's something i have done before and will not muddle through. i kept locking myself out of accounts today. it was terrible. i did more times in one day today than i have in my entire life before now, i'm sure!!!!!!!!! and i KNOW HOW it happens, that the thing!

the other guys were all pretty nice. no gals, just guys. but that's pretty typical in my field and group of 4-5 ppl.

i am hoping it will feel nice to be part of a team again, even though i was starting to feel that with my boss, at the other place. so it's strange.

hi waves thanks for the update, the new place sounds good so far. How long is this contract with them? did I understand that your old place may want to hire you again after this contract is over?
soon they will be fighting over you!

love you

Red face thank you all

i still can't believe it myself.

i got though one contract and in spite of a lot of hassle made a good impression on the final client which could, in the middle term, turn into new opportunities if i wanted them.

and am starting a new one.

i am employed and can buy stuff. i still wonder how long this will last, but i made it through a lot of hard stuff.

one colleague told me, "i've seen lots of people here come and go and come back again. it was meant to be, you'll be back... this might not be the right moment." i am going with that.

i think just getting out of what was an emotionally charged situation for me was probably the right thing, right now, even though i am no longer convinced my boss is a demon as evil he appeared to me. it may have been i was putting a read on things... i had a while there where i was pretty messed up and it is hard to know "who's on first" or in this case, who was "off" first. i just don't know. but it was not just him, there was me. in the beginning, he was very supportive. and alter, he started being real nice and we worked really well the last month. even doing some things in tandem. i learned a lot of things from him. my colleague/coordinator remained loud and rude and while you can "expect it" from her... it isn't pleasant 2/5 days a week. the intermediate contractor meanwhile i'm pretty sure is playing contractor games because there were too many contradictions. so it was all a big mess. to pin it on my boss would be using him as a scapegoat because he is emotionally labile... someone could do that to any of us, really.

certainly the contractual arrangement (or rather chain of arrangements) made for abysmal communications not to mention abysmal wages. (being unemployed, abysmal was fantastic! )

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the new place ...
has a couple of worrisome aspects thus far:
  1. temp of the room (might be too cold). definitely 1 guy likes to keep it like a fridge, i prefer something tamer... we'll see how this pans out.
  2. distance/time it takes to go, get coffee, come back. no machine on our floor in/out through two badged doors and bit of a walk through Marketing. i wonder if other ppl suffer from caffeine-deficiency fits where their brain crashes if they don't get some ASAP. they did not even take an afternoon coffee-break... only one guy... yikes!
  3. last but not least ... this could be a biggie for me. my machine is oriented outward towards the passageway. i like having my back to a wall and machine a wall, even better if it's a corner space. reason. i have a "thing" about ppl walking by, being able to be able to read my screen while i'm in the middle of something. it did not interfere with me too much friday. i didn't have much to do, especially with how many times i locked myself out but this is a quirk of mine that might just.... well.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

anyway, a huge thank you to everyone here. you guys have been phenomenal support through all this.

Congrats, waves! A chapter successfully wrapped up, another begun. Exciting & scary all in one. You are amazing to be just DOING it! I'm so glad you seem to be getting a kick out of the fact that you are doing it, too!
if you can't take coffee in a thermos, how 'bout using an immersion heater? Hot water in about 2 mins.
Your lock-out probs make me smile because I have computer probs too. My 'puter tells me I'm "inauthentic" all the time. I love the things (iPhones to main frames), am really among their greatest fans--but if 1 person in the office is going to get a gremlin, it's me.
You keep on finding the good stuff & making the less-than-perfect work for you. You are definitely good at feeling your way & putting 1 foot in front of the other.
I'm gonna try more of that!
Cheers.

Thank you Jude! (((hugs)))

i'm gonna keep trying.

it is still hard... i am still wayyyyyy more tired than a healthy person my age should be, when i'm not at work... part is probably meds... i look forward to reducing again, but it won't be for a while i'm afraid. stay put till the whole "going to work" thing feels more normal.

i am grateful the commute for this seems like it's gonna be shorter, less crowded, less overwhelming. that may change when summer is over - some people are away already. i won't be running up and down to the subway... so no more good-for-toning-the-legs stairs for now, but between that and the standing and noise and overcrowding and the heat/cold switches the commute was not pretty albeit efficient timewise.
