The situation this morning revealed how bad things were during the night. The reading from the river broke and the levels of 38.7 ft were so wrong. Actually the crest was 42.66 ft, more then 2 ft higher then Agnus and what the levees were built to protect. People were calling for help during the night in areas that were not to be affected at this height (Agnus 40ft) saying someone in emergency management needed to go look at the river it was wrong.

Then the dikes started breaching, break out of water in the city, and backflowing the streams and creeks into areas never flooded before. THe gov landed near by and was informed of the broken gage, and the power of roaring Susquehanna. It is so loud like a train.

Many roads I need to get out to claims on Monday are washed away, bridges out, and people relocated to shelters.

The only problems we had were run off. The modular home I put in for ds and dgs took some foundation damage. THe springs boiled out of the ground and out of the mountain. The trail they took hit the corner of the concrete pad and supports under it. Where the fill was put back in after consturction washed out.

Ds and dh are down there now digging a trench and directing the water away from the house to a drain we put in during constructions.

People are still evacuated and so many pooling together. Wegmans donated the food for CEO in the area to assist with meals. Clean up kits being put together.

The big concern now is what happen to New Orleans. The dikes breached below. They blew out in weak areas from the pressure of the weight of the water. The integrity is really a concern. They are bandaiding the breaks, but at this point it is holding up.

The army corp engineer said he never say any design or system hold up to this much pressure. So everyone is saying a prayer and crossing fingers at this point.

Jim Cantore is twittering from here today, and Al Roker from Weather Channel was on the air this morning.

BREAKING NEWS: The crest of the Susquehanna River at Wilkes-Barre is much higher than originally expected. The crest is at 42.6 feet. That is higher than Agnes. The levees are only designed to withhold 41 feet. The levee is holding but it is being stressed at a level it has never dealt with before. If you were evacuated, stay out of the valley. This is a very serious situation!
Oh yes. The two storms this year caused terrible damage, and great hardship over a large area. The floods where worse I think then what Camille caused.

The winds of Camille, and the storm where considered a Freak of Nature. It was so long ago. I just remember winds, and floods through shopping centers, gas stations, and residential areas near rivers, canals, and creeks.

We had about a dozen tall Pine trees, and that's what probably worried me about the winds. I just don't remember. It was so long ago. It was also happening around the first time man walked on the moon. BF

Woww. it must be amazing to be able to remember that event!!!

At the same time, the coincidence of these two events kinda freaks me out. It is almost like Mother Nature or God was upset that we were "outstepping our boundaries" for the price of... well, Earth's own resources... so many resources consumed for building and launching space vehicles.

It was so long ago. I was just about to go to my second year at military school. I was a young teenager.

I know what you mean Waves. Some people think that these atmospheric conditions are as the result of us going into space. I've wondered about it myself.

I went to Google a little while ago,and clicked on Hurricane Camille Youtube, and found a youtube film called,"A lady called Camille". The documentary was of a style that I haven't heard in years. It was before cable TV.

That storm slammed into Mississippi, with 200 miles per hour winds, and tidal wave, and rain. Then it came up here to Virginia, crossed the mountains, and rained 27 inches of rain on this side of the mountains.(Nelson Co.,Va) That county is two counties away from mine. That flooded the towns down to Richmond,Va. I just remember that being the storm of the century when I was a teenager.

All of these storms are bad. The tropical storm that we just had was strange. It just kept coming up from the South. Yesterday, the sun finally came out. The two storms where rain makers, and caused alot of flooding. It was much worse where Di was.

Di. I hope that the waters calm down. You have been through a tremendous rain manufacturing cloud that moved so slowly. I hope that you are alright. BF

Dear Steve,

Camille was a powerful storm. I was a child. We lived in the path.
I wish the weather folks would stop using people's names.

=-=-=-
I wish I felt comfortable telephoning my Godmother about the recent flooding in the Hudson River Valley. I'm not in the mood to talk on the phone. Maybe I will call this weekend anyway.

Waves Appollo 11 landed on the moon with Neil Armstrong on about July 20th,1969. Hurricane Camille was from August 14th,through 22nd,1969. BF

Thanks for the video Steve! I remember working as a Candy Striper (wait not a stripper right? or is it the other way around? lol)
But I was working in a Nursing home and so many residents were sure that the flights would affect the weather. They were terrified of what could happen to the atmosphere. (funny global warming is not blaimed for breaking through atmosphere)

Waves, locals here are mentioning about the Earthquake and Irene in one week, then the rememnents of Lee the next weekend. Along with all the earthquakes in US that usually do not have movement. Relating to Fracking of gas from the earth in our area.

Today is one the river is down and clean up begins. The city proper had minimal flooding protected by the dikes pushed beyond their limits. BUT it did make to flooding of surrounding, unprotected town experience heavier and wider spread dmg.

So many roads and bridges are just torn, cracked and closed. Monday I will head up to some of the affected area, but fb friends have given me a heads up on the route that is safe.

These are two links thanks for the idea BF, one is coverage of Agnus 92,

Yesterday someones entire deck going down the River.
