THursday night, the second day he'd been down .25 mg of his former 1.75 ,g daily dose, he grabbed the scissors at some point and cut the cord to my CPAP machine. All because we wanted him to shower. He's really lost his impulse control. Not sure that we'll be able to maintain this dose drop, hard to know if it will equalize out and all or if we're gonna have to bump it back to the previous dose. Oh well. I am pretty disappointed he did this to my cpap machine.

Yeah well we want to get him down on the risperdal due to the weight loss, and how we worry about his developing diabetes or something. It runs so heavily in my family history it's really hard to deal with so we want to avoid him developing it. The first pdoc he ever saw said he'd probably be able to wean off the risperdal (that was the first drug he'd tried besides the Clonidine and Lamictal) around the teen years if he'd learned coping skills and communication wasn't too hard. So we'd love for that to happen. BUT I think we're gonna have to try it later. It's just not meant to be right now, we might be able to leave this dosing as it stands, we'll know more as the weekend progresses. But yeah, the CPAP needs a new fuse and I dunno that we'll be able to find one for it and Jack be able to fix it. We'll see. I think they will get a replacement for me at five years, but I don't know that for sure yet. *Sigh*

Dear Pam,
You are doing the right thing. Pick the dose that works for the whole family. Don't worry yet about diabetes in the future. How often does he shower? Do you let him skip days? I really really hate to shower. I have one of these shower nozzels that helps because I hold it in my hand instead of standing under it (Mine is cheaper than the one in the picture.) I hope you find a solution for the cpap. M |

Pam, I used a tablet cutter and would basically shave off tiny amounts and then leave it for a while and then go down another tiny amount. When my son tapered off his Risperdal many years ago the docs wanted to decrease too fast in my opinion. It took ages but was worth it in the end.

Thanks Mari, I think he's doing better now, he had a good day at school and did good this weekend, so I am not going to sweat it right now, but I think we're not gonna be able to drop it down further. Oh well.
![]() Thanks Lara, that's a good idea. I will talk to his father and see what he thinks, though he's been at the new dose almost a week, and only had trouble the first two days. Thank you for the empathy, it means a lot to me to hear you say that. ![]() As for new developments, nothing new. Things are still good, I didn't call about my cpap, I need to, so I will probably call tomorrow. ![]()

Pam
If the only two nights he wont take a shower are Friday and Saturday. Then accept this for now. Make sure he realizes, there are no exceptions to this rule. And make him sponge bath these two nights. For now. If at some point its really important that he take one say on a Saturday, because you are going some where important, then play that card. I think you can work through it as time goes by. You are doing a great job Pam. And honestly, this is not a problem, that just he has. Many kids don't want to shower. And we already now that about the adults. Donna ![]() |

Risperdal comes in a liquid. This may help with a more accurate and slower taper.
RISPERDAL® is also available as a 1 mg/mL oral solution. RISPERDAL® Oral Solution contains the following inactive ingredients: tartaric acid, benzoic acid, sodium hydroxide, and purified water. Using a 1/10 syringe you can give tenths orally. Target gives them away, if you ask. There are about 20 drops to a milliliter, so you can get a fine slow taper this way.
