we'll see what the Neuro says... i am going to ask about the various options, and if he is reluctant to prescribe something i'll press to know the reasons why not.

Part of the reason too is that once i am used to it, i have no side effects from gabapentin (not case right now - still adjusting). Topamax is known to have some serious side effects. The last neuro refused to even let me try it; then again she was a real witch.

I also want to know if the state will pay for Topamax, coz it won't pay for gabapentin. Gabapentin may be cheap over there (?) but here it is expensive considering the amount i need.

However since gapapentin has worked before - and seems like it's helping even though i'm all groggy coz not used to it... many a doc would tell me to stay with that.

HI I am on gabapinton for ms nerve pain..but it dont help out to much with migraines....I take just ibprofen 800 for that...

I just wanted to let you know that at a high dose as you are on...be very careful for dizziness..and getting off balance..

sorry you have migraines also. i know that i am lucky gabapentin helps me. it doesn't help many people. no worries i normally only take 1200 a day in divided doses and tolerate it without side effects.

i can no longer take nsaids at the moment. i used to take ibuprofen. in turn let me offer a warning... always take it with food and don't lie down for at least an hour after you take it. i was fine for years and now am on a special diet because of heartburn etc - damage from years of NSAID use (ibuprofen, indomethacin etc) - precisely for migraine treatment.

i have used gabapentin before for prevention at times when i am getting migraines 20-15 days a month. with that frequency, a preventive is required as one cannot use NSAIDS or any analgesic - some cause rebound, others addiction, etc.

i take 1200 mg a day of gabapentin in divided doses and have only 3-5 days of migraine, and gradually even less. btw, in order to work, it doses must be equal and fairly equally spaced.

for breakthrough episodes, i will be taking other meds (not extra gabapentin like this last time), from now on.

Awww waves, I am so sorry you're still suffering that level of migraine attacks per month! That stinks! I feel for you, I had one this week that left me down for three days, the first day was real bad, then the following two days I was zapped for energy and had such a sensitivity leftover in place of where the pain had been I just laid in bed and on the sofa. I feel much better today, and yesterday. I really HOPE you find something that works for you soon. Migraines are so bad....

hey the gabapentin takes care of it its only 4-5 days now. just i have to remove the gabapentin or reduce it... maybe a lower amount will work i will see.
sheeez i know and nobody gets it when it's "over" and you're still feeling like you got squashed by an eight ton lead weight. and light and/or sound sensitivity persists for a few days with me usually. luckily i don't often get the real high pain ones like that any more (did last month), but i still get them bad enough to medicate. Plus, sometimes even the ones not bad enough to medicate (before gabapentin when i had most of the month's worth i had all kinds) i get other sx like imbalance or hemiplasia which makes getting around a bit of a challenge, add even a mild-moderate headache which disagrees with movement, the light and sound sensitivity which are always there... and forget it. i took a bad fall because of the imbalance once when i was teaching and now my knee is messed up. i am too depressed to deal with the whole stupid frickin process of ortho + mdoc + physiatrist + mdoc + possible therapy. ankles too but less worried about them - think more likely to heal, just slowly.my stupid mdoc gave me tramadol which has serotonin interaction warnings AND is addictive AND i'd have to take through migraine duration - i have multi-migraine "episodes" once a month lasting 2-3 days. same stupid doc won't give me a triptan w/o neuro recommendation f(*#)*Q)&)(#*#())(#*%)
seeing neuro on 14. hopefully will get something resolved. and dx on paper for paperpushing mdoc to shove up his ... sorry if i am not mincing words that guy really gets to me sometimes (a lot... most of the time.)

well now that i've vented all over the place i'll go hide again.
