Bobby

No real thoughts other than hugs.

I would also talk to Dr. M. About the social worker, and the location.

If he requires it, then he should be able to help figure out a solution
to the problem of the location or you getting there safely.

Dear Bobby,

Waves makes sense when she mentions calling the dentist if you have one because that is one certain thing that you have control over.

The rest of the stuff you mention is out of your control and perhaps why it is most unsettling. I too would be disturbed about the weirdness of the social worker's message. Try to trust Dr. M. He will tell you something that makes sense and that is workable I hope.

I am sorry that you are bruised from the fall. I hope that you are not achey.

i agree your social worker should have told you in person at your last appointment - to give her a break i'll say perhaps she didn't know, but she could have called to talk in person when she came back from vacation... anyawy it sucks. i am hoping the location is more accessible to you than it seems... we'll see.

sorry about the toothache. that makes two of us except i have to find a decent dentist... nothing to do but try, sigh... i hate dealing with dental problems. if you have someone good already, perhaps you could go ahead and make the appointment, start getting past this one thing. it is a thing you can control in the middle of all the others that you have little if any control over.

sorry the 4th was not such a good day for you. you and me both. i came down with a nasty migraine (i've been forgetting to take my gabapentin). i had too little pain stuff left, went to the docs and nearly passed out while talking to him! so then i was disoriented and forgot i was to ask aboout triptans as well as pain meds. oh well things go how they go. I think about Andy Griffith and how I wish eh chould have had just one more day, one more Independence Day. At least we are here, right?

did you get to go out at all today? will you be able to see some nice fireworks from your terrace?

sending you much love, good thoughts, and a great many huggs which i wish i could give you in person.

~ waves ~
first i am sorry i haven't written sooner. I have been sleeping so badly, obsessing about the change in location of the therapy and then i haven't had any energy in a long time and the heat is making it worse. I can't make myself go to the dentist yet. I will go when the pain is too much. I need dentures and it is still too hard to handle. I hope you find a very good dentist. I go to NYU dental clinic where they train students. It is a lot cheaper than regular dentists and the students tend to be enthusiastic and kind and are closely supervised.
I was in bed when the fireworks went off with the tv on. the macy's fireworks are way over on the west side so couldnt see them anyways. there were probably some in the park which i could have seen. I staid in all day.
I am so sorry you are suffering so much from the frequent migraines. I wish they would go away.

Drink water or other fluid -- maybe a one glass every fifteen or twenty minutes or one gallon a day.
What we used to do to cool off is to keep our hair wet -- I used to stick my head in a cold faucet, let the hair air dry, and wet it again. Taking frequent cool showers or baths is even better.

->Waves mentioned doing something similar with a water bottle spritzer in a recent post.

Yikes. I looked up the weather in your area. You are under a heat advisory until 8:00 pm. Has the city notified people (via tv or otherwise) of precautions besides the ones I mentioned above?

Maybe after 8:00 pm the fan will bring you relief. Fans are perhaps better than nothing during the hottest times of the day but not by much. Call 911 if you are overcome by heat.
Maybe tomorrow you can go somewhere cool --- to the senior center, movie, anywhere with A/C.

That part of Harlem has been gentrified somewhat. The pictures on Google Maps might make you feel better but I can see why the bus change and walking (or possible cab) ride is disturbing in an unfamiliar neighborhood.
For now, forget about the social worker. Dr. M. will explain things to you when you see him.

The terrace work will be noisy and privacy invading. Call up your friends. You can rely on them--- ask them to come over or take you out.
'Sorry that you are going through this.

M
thanks Mari
Maybe i am worried too much about the change in location and maybe it is gentrified. It appears to be right near ccny campus too but a park is separating it. It will be embarassing to ask dr. m. if his other office is safe.
the map says there is a six minute walk to the office from the bus stop which might mean 10 minutes for me. i hope i can make it. I have been researching medicare social workers in my area. I don't know ifhe would go for that. I am really obsessing. My bruise is really bad and that fall really scared me. I have been drinking a lot. I am now running the ac all the time. tomorrow is supposedly to be the worse.
thank you

from the heat could be many things - like dehydration etc so yest do keep hydrated, and really wetting the head works - get the scalp wet. tap is great and fast, but i like spray bottle now that my hair is longer or it just drips all over me. not fun.

the other thing is blood pressure. do you have a monitor? i wonder if it' could be running low in general. might be something to check. maybe barbara has a monitor.

one thing you can do, preventionwise, is whenever you change positions from lying/sitting to standing, do so very slowly. this gives time for blood flow to readjust, in case you are at all prone to orthostatic hypotension. orthostatic hypotension refers to sudden bp drop after getting up from lying down. it doesn't necessarily happen immediately. i get it sometimes. i will get up say, go to the kitchen for something to eat, open the fridge and then suddenly i go dizzy and lightheaded and i have to hang onto something not to collapse. i've sometimes on occasion had things go black and landed on my butt. the condition itself is transient and not dangerous per se - the danger is in the fall risk and consequent potential for serious injury. luckily, it is very easy to prevent by moving extra slow when getting up.

I have high blood pressure for which i take medication. My neighbor said I was lucky to break the fall with my arm because i could have hit my head or broken my shoulder. It must have been scarey when things went black. It almost happened to me and then i blinked and came out of it.

thanks so much for the hugs. I don't know what dr.m will say. it was his decision to move the location because both locations are his offices. I don't want to insult him about the safety about his office. also now that i am older I can't see myself standing on a bus for a long time. I don't know if I can get a seat. so many negative thoughts.

thanks for the message Mari
right now all i can think of is that dr m. found somebody to rent out the space for the current location on that day and has the other location empty. I am less achey but especially exhausted. I got two hours sleep last night.

Heart hi there

Dear Bobby,

First, even if your bp is high, a sudden drop can cause those symptoms - it doesn't have to be a drop into hypotensive state, just a relative drop.

Second, your medication probably keeps your bp fairly normal.

And lastly, with the heat, and the A/C not working, you may even be experiencing low blood pressure, or dips into actual hypotension. That happened to my dad and they had to lower his medication. I'd encourage you to see your doctor about this, since you are taking meds, to see if an adjustment is in order given the environmental conditions.

Meanwhile, just do please be careful when getting up ... do it slowly, sit up slowly, stay sitting, then stand. that sort of thing. yes that's the problem with falling you don't know what you're going to hit or break or... the best thing is to try to prevent falling, which you can do.

After getting up slowly, walk near walls or furniture that you can lean on or grasp if you suddenly feel dizzy or faint. And don't hesitate to grab on and plunk yourself downon the floor wherever if that happens. Better you plunk yourself than get plunked, you know?

i do hope your arm feels better soon. thank goodness you didn't sustain other injuries. hope you can get more sleep tonight or today sleep heals.

------------------
Dr. M. ... i wouldn't be concerned about "offending" him. Just be straight up and tell him your fears. If you wish, you can start by telling him your fear of offending him. Then continue with the others. This way he can address everything with you. He has known you for years. I think it will be fine. He is a compassionate person.

love
