Smile update on communicating with my father

Hi,

Two days before my father's hip surgery, he sent an email to my siblings and me titled "Incommunicado for a few days." He requested no phone calls. The email almost sounded as if he did not ever want to hear from us.

He is so annoying.

He did get the surgery and it was successful.
This was his first time EVER being in a hospital. He was very frightened leading up to the surgery.

He is in rehab at the moment and doing fine.
He and I have talked on the phone twice and I have twice talked to my mom.

Two of my siblings and I try to get updates to each other about what is going on. (The third sibling is self-involved and not much help anyway.)

he sounds like such a rare duck but so endearing. I am so happy for you all that all went fine and he is doing well.

I am glad he is doing well. recoveries from a hip surgery go faster and are less painful than a knee replacement. So I am hoping for a speedy recovery for him.

Hi, Bizi and Bobby,

He is so difficult.

I suppose I can try to think of him as endearing.

Bobby,

I understand. He is quite difficult. I suppose he is endearing.
I have described him to people has being charming --- he does have some charm.

Dear Mari,

glad to hear your dad is doing well in rehab, after his hip surgery.

different people deal with fear and change in different ways.

it sounds like his way, at least this time, was to clam up tight in his shell.

anyway, things sound real promising.... sending him good vibes.

hugs to you

Ha, dad is exactly the same... What a weirdo !

My theory is that they are so weak and emotional and prefer to pretend to be so strong and independent just not to break down infront of family...

Dad had his knee surgery (ages ago) all alone too... he didnt tell me which hospital he was going to be at !

Guess... love them, dont try to understand them... I wish he would talk to me more, and give me advices about life though...

Default crying tonight

Hi,

My father is going home from rehab on Tuesday. On the hour long drive home, Mom and Dad will stop at a special grocery store to buy wine and steak he told me.

I checked with them that someone would be home on Friday when I am having a box of organic pears (he likes pears) delivered.

I started crying when I was on the phone with my sis around midnight and have not stopped. I think I am emotionally exhausted and worn out from trying to deal with him.
