Arrow RACING THOUGHTS and MIXED STATES

Here is what wikipedia says about RACING THOUGHTS:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racing_thoughts

Quote:
Racing thoughts refers to the rapid thought patterns that often occur in manic, hypomanic, or mixed episodes. While racing thoughts are most commonly described in people with bipolar disorder, they are also common with anxiety disorders, such as OCD. ]
Also this link:
http://www.mayoclinic.org/medical-ed...9/may-15b.html

They can disrupt sleep.
They can make the days very difficult.
I had them the whole four long years I was on lithium. My life was pretty close to horrible during that time. I am not sure how I am alive.
(sorry to be a downer)

Here is what Wikipedia says about MIXED STATES:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_state_(psychiatry)
Quote:
In the context of mental disorder, a mixed state, also known as dysphoric mania, agitated depression, or a mixed episode, is a condition during which symptoms of mania and depression occur simultaneously, such as agitation, anxiety, fatigue, guilt, impulsiveness, irritability, morbid or suicidal ideation, panic, paranoia, pressured speech and rage. Typical examples include tearfulness during a manic episode or racing thoughts during a depressive episode.

One may also feel incredibly frustrated or be prone to fits of rage in this state, since one may feel like a failure and at the same time have a flight of ideas.

Mixed states are often the most problematic period of mood disorders, during which susceptibility to substance abuse, panic disorder, commission of violence, suicide attempts, and other complications increase greatly.
I describe my old version of mixed states as having the low of depression mixed with the intensity of mania. Our doctors need to be watchful because these are the times when people are most in danger.

Mari Wow. That's good information. I get unwanted thoughts, and music allot. My mind gets stuck on something sometimes. I have to let it fade away, and sometimes a get other thoughts that I have to let fade away also.

I didn't know that they had a name for working in anger, and rage. We've seen the results of Dysphoric Mania on the news when someone goes home, and get's a gun,and goes back to work, and kills fellow workers. I guess that's full blown rage, and Dysphoric Mania.

To bad that OSIA,and the Dept. of Human Services won't get involved until it's to late. They can't make bosses to treat people humanly. It's sad. BF

Steve,

Mixed states can be quite scary because one feels trapped . . . like there is no way out.
We feel that no one can help us because we are beyond help at that point.

It is difficulty being bipolar. I think I live my life trying to stay away from those mixed states. I would prefer to live in the land of mild depression and occasional anxiety.

I know what you mean. I never know what's going to happen next emotionally. This fear thing is the absolute pits. It drives my OCD. I have felt all kinds of emotional states, feeling stress in my body, and feeling like I'm going to loose everything, and die. I've felt rejected, abandoned, paranoid, and isolated. Then I feel better after a period of time where I've been scared out of my wits. I never know when a panic is going to make my world go/feel upside down. The fear emotional state feels like I'm going to loose this, that, and the other. I don't know what to do about it. I never have. No one knows what this is.

We do feel trapped. If there is a question about not getting enough support,it's a sinking feeling that is very painful. I hope that they come up with new treatments, and new medications in the near future.

All I'm doing now is trying to survive, and make it from one day to another. I don't know what the future holds. The News is talking about this fiscal cliff.
I hope that I don't loose my state support system after the first of the year. I just don't know.

I've made it this far,and it's been extremely difficult. If "normal" people who knew what we actually go though, they might cut us a little slack. BF

Dear Steve,

I have been reading www.slate.com
They usually have one article a day about the fiscal stuff.
The fiscal cliff is mostly about taxes. If you are not working or paying income taxes, this does not apply to you.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/...t_a_cliff.html

It is a good thing.
When the George Bush tax cuts expire on January 1, 2013, the middle class will get their taxes the same that they have had for 11 years and the wealthy will pay more --- During the campaign, Obama said this is what he would do.
In other words, t.v. is doing a lot of screaming and yelling about nothing.

The new people in the House of Representatives who just got elected will start their new jobs in January. They will work with the president and the Senate.

It is going to be o.k.

Unhappy

I don't understand I thought that all those members who pay taxes will have their taxes go up! I am afraid for this...I hope they come to an agreement.

Bizi,

The tax cuts from Bush will expire automatically on Dec 31, 2012.
In January, 2013 Obama and congress will pass the tax cuts again. They are going to do this for the middle class. The rich (people above 250,000 a year) will not get a tax cut.

The middle class will pay the same taxes that we pay now.

Katmae,

I took myself off lithium and made the pdoc give me something else. That was 20 years ago. The mixed states are gone.
I am very thankful for that.
