This Nebula has a strange name, but it's a beautiful Nebula.

2013 May 29: NGC 6960: The Witch s Broom Nebula

It looks like blue waves to me. It looks like a surfers wave in space.

Hi, Steve,

This sharp telescopic view is centered on a western segment of the Veil Nebula cataloged as NGC 6960 but less formally known as the Witch's Broom Nebula.
Blasted out in the cataclysmic explosion, the interstellar shock wave plows through space sweeping up and exciting interstellar material.
It is beautiful.

bizi I don't know. I've seen dimer blues. This may be a picture from a infra-red camera,or a different light spectrum camera on the Hubble,or another space telescope. Good question. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Hi, Steve,

This is a small enough photo that I can put it here.

mari, do you think they color them?
bizi

Mari 06-05-2013 12:52 AM

Bizi,

My guess is that mostly they are not coloring them.
They are using high quality cameras.
Here is the explanation of this picture:

Quote:

Intense ultraviolet light from the hot central star ionizes atoms in the gas. In the picture, the
blue color in the center is ionized helium, the
cyan color of the inner ring is the glow of hydrogen and oxygen, and the
reddish color of the outer ring is from nitrogen and sulfur.
