Politics I am very worried.

I keep hearing on the news, and emails from lobbyists, and senators, that they are considering cutting funds first from Medicaid, and Medicare, and Social Security. They call them entitlements.

I got a email from my district's congressman saying that medicaid benefits are going up 7% each year. So what is he telling me? They are thinking of doing what to Medicaid!

What are they thinking about doing to Social Security, and Medicare? This scares me. I don't need this anxiety, and agitation. I'm on Social Security Disability.

It seems like the rich think that they are...(Entitled)...to continue receiving tax breaks that has hurt the economy, not to mention the Military Industrial Complex that Dwight David Eisenhower warned us about. You can see the 1961 speech on youtube, when he was giving his last speech. He was exactly right. I heard the Generals talking about nation building in the last couple of years.

I am frightened. They don't seem to understand reality in Washington anymore. There's a reason that Franklin Roosevelt created Social Security, and it's been working, and coming out of our paychecks.

I'm sorry to have gotten into politics, but what are they doing?
BF

Steve,

This was President (and General) Eisenhower's last speech as president:

He warns us of the military industrial complex. Here is the youtube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y06NSBBRtY

Please try to realize that the politicians are posturing. (They remind me of rooters fighting in the yard.)

Social security is not part of what is being considered.
Disability is not part of what is being considered.
They are talking about income tax for people making more than $ 250,000 year.
They throw in a lot of other stuff to confuse the issue.

The t.v. is doing this financial talk 24 hours a day on all the channels and will do this until the end of the year. Take some breaks from the t.v. or watch some other channels.

Both sides are trying to upset us. It is a lot of shouting and hollering.

I understand, Steve, that this is upsetting. I hope that you are going to be o.k.

M

Thank you Mari. I try to limit myself to NBC nightly news with Brian Williams. A email that I got tonight set me off into a panic of worry. These guys I think have government pensions,so they don't have any worries about financial ruin. Most of them are Lawyers.

Eisenhower said in part of his farewell speech about the Military Industrial Complex..."We must not fail to comprehend it's grave implication"... Now the country is broke. I could go on,and on about a vast amount of subjects here. Now we wrestle with most Foreign powers who show power. It's sad. We spend more money on our military then all of the foreign governments combined, and it's making us broke as a country.

Let me stop here. Thank you for helping calming me down. I'm up at after 4 AM with anxiety pain in my chest. I'm going to try to calm down. BF

Hi everyone
just a reminder that we try to limit directly political posting here. So where the discussion on these things is fine as it relates to health and welfare, please try not to make political comments about parties etc. We have this guideline in place because people usually have strong political views and so discussions can quickly become battlegrounds when someone has an opposing view.

Heart hey Steve... i get it... i've been sick with anxiety lately

Dear Steve

((( hugs )))

i have been battling with similar issues myself. i'm outside the US as you may recall, but crazy things have happened here, and it's been for some time now. It has brought on a feeling of oppression in me and I feel paralyzed by anxiety about certain things. I may be verging on paranoia, but it's hard to say if it's me or ... ? perhaps you know what i mean.

My parents have become political addicts so i am inundated with news and their loud and repetitive discussions about things... I can't get away. i use earplugs sometimes but they are even louder than that.

sigh. will keep you in my thoughts. you do well to limit exposure. try to find things that you enjoy, and that bring you peace. if it isn't too cold, or if you don't mind dressing warm, try to get outside and look at nature.

or you can do the five senses exercise. you can do it anywhere. focus on each sense, one at a time. notice what you perceive through that particular sense, and soak in the experience, actively thinking about each of the perceptions as you experience them. move through different things. do this for each of the five senses. let the sensations guide your thoughts and occupy your mind.

the only thing i've ever found to chase away obsessive thoughts is finding something else that will absorb my attention. that five senses exercise can be a useful way to move your attention. There are lots of other ways of course. Some activities are insufficient to move the mind as we may give them a "background" thought process.

the negative approach - "do not think about X" i have not found helpful. this thought itself includes X - so it is logically ineffectual. In fact, I've found it can cause one to obsess about being obsessed... due to the distress of "not" thinking of X.

I really hope you feel better soon. i hope you can find good, wholesome distractions.

Steve - I have been having a lot of anxiety over this "fiscal cliff" talk. My husband recently spent $600 on some drainage pipes for the side of our yard and I freaked out. All this fiscal cliff talk makes me feel like we should be saving more than usual. I don't have an answer. I try to limit my exposure. But being on facebook and just speaking with people you hear all this stuff. I find it unnerving, too.

Heart TV tricks our brain into feeling something is important when it is not

Hi, People,

Here is what I was trying to say.

Our brains were designed to get upset and take action when something went wrong in our village. When someone got hurt in the village, we reacted so that we could protect ourselves and the others in the village.
In other words, when I hear a crying baby on the television, my brain gets almost as upset as if I heard a crying baby in real life.

I cannot watch much tv and see no movies in theaters because noise and images are painful. I watch tv news with the sound off or listen to the radio with no pictures and I only do that for about one hour a day

ALSO, I keep in mind that nothing that is happening in Congress or the White House affects me right now this minute. When those folks work out the current issues, they will let us know. In the meantime, I am honestly going to focus on getting to bed on time so that I can get to my job in the morning.

Hugs to everyone.

M
