Having supper with them was nice. We named our son after my grandfather. He is a stern man but loves me and would do and has done anything for me. I am the only granddaughter (I have 3 boy cousins) and suppose I should admit they have spoiled me my whole life. :-)

My grandmother still cooks when she can. Other times I cook and they come over. A couple weeks ago I cooked red beans & rice. For ya'll not familiar with it, it is red beans & sliced sausage in a gravy that you serve over rice and then sprinkle green onions on top. Anyway about halfway through his plate my grandfather says to me, this is good! Is this some spaghetti? Please keep in mind he has been eating this his whole life. He is 79 and does not have Alzheimer's. I'm not quite sure what leads to his confusion, he had taken his insulin right before we sat down to eat. I don't know... he has neuropathy in both legs now. So he has braces on both his legs, but still stubbornly walks with his cane even though he is supposed to be using a walker. He had to grab the wall last night because he almost fell down when my 6 year old daughter hugged him. He loses his balance so easily. He was always an outdoor laborer so it is hard to see him so frail. In my mind he's still supposed to be tall & muscular.

We see them at least once a month but usually twice. My grandmother is 75 and doing well. I love them very much and it is important to me that my children get to know them, even though when we go over all they want to do is watch tv. They have shaped my life more than they realize. My whole life they have provided me with stability.

This is a sweet.
It is hard watching your loved ones change with age....your grandfather is very stubborn. And seems inevitable that he will fall and hurt himself it is just a matter of when that will happen unfortunately. He may have some dementia which can be quite normal when we get older. Your grandmother and he are a team...probably have been married a long time and take care of each other.
I am sure you cherish the times you spend together.
hugs to you today
