The article expounds on the point made by each quote... follow the link above for detail. Meanwhile, these are the 9 quotes:

Quote:
1. Growth and Change
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ―Anaïs Nin
2. Problems and Opportunities
What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.” ―J. Sidlow Baxter
3. Hard Work and Achievement
It shouldn’t be easy to be amazing. Then everything would be. It’s the things you fight for and struggle with before earning that have the greatest worth. When something’s difficult to come by, you’ll do that much more to make sure it’s even harder – or impossible – to lose.” ―Sarah Dessen
4. Focus
Whenever you want to achieve something, keep your eyes open, concentrate and make sure you know exactly what it is you want. No one can hit their target with their eyes closed.” ―Paulo Coelho
5. Positive Thinking
Our thoughts about what we are and what we can be precisely determine what we can be.” ―Anthony Robbins
6. Mistakes
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” ―Mahatma Gandhi
7. Acceptance
For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain.” ―Henry W. Longfellow
8. Confidence and Beliefs
Sometimes beautiful things come into our lives out of nowhere. We can’t always understand them, but we have to trust in them. I know you want to question everything, but sometimes it pays to just have a little faith.” ―Lauren Kate
9. The Present Moment
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” ―Mother Teresa

Lightbulb My favorite "power quote" is a song.

Quote:
Your turn…

What’s your favorite power quote that can provide a quick dose of inspiration when you need it most?
The title of this song is a good quickie power quote in and of itself, but the song as a whole captures a couple of the points made by the quotes above. Besides, it's an awesome song, and if I'm down I find it mood-congruent... i.e. doesn't pack so much positive punch as to knock me flat on me butt. The title is a link to the song on Youtube:
Let It Be - by The Beatles of course.

Default Anthony (Tony) Robbins

Hi,

Years ago I saw Anthony (Tony) Robbins on a Charley Rose show explaining his medical condition that makes him very high energy.
In other words he is not like the rest of us because his body and mind are kind of super human:

http://www.pickydomains.com/node/383
Quote:
In 1994, a routine medical check revealed a tumor in Robbins' pituitary gland.
According to his recounting in Personal Power the tumor was actually an adenoma that had infarcted several years prior.
Due to the pressure of the adenoma on his pituitary gland, he had circulating levels of growth hormone several times higher than what would be normal for an adult his age.

This had resulted in a subclinical manifestation of the disease known as acromegaly, which doctors told Robbins was responsible for his remarkable growth spurts as a teenager, as well as his large hands and feet (He is 6 feet 7 inches tall, or 201 cm).

After consultation with a number of different physicians, Tony eventually decided not to have the adenoma resected, as it was not causing any clinical manifestations, such as organomegaly or heart valve defects.

I used to play that song on piano.

Is Mary Paul's mother? Or the mother of Jesus?

Anyway, Paul wrote a good song.

Red face Paul's mother was "Mary" too...

I used to play it on guitar. (read: couldn't do it today if I tried. )
I always thought of Mary as being the Virgin Mary ... not realizing until now that Paul's mother was called Mary. Hmmmm... now I think it is likely he was recalling his own mother... it is also possible the ambiguity was deliberate.

Default 5 Easy Ways To Feel Better Immediately When You Need A Timeout

http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-8283/...a-timeout.html

5 Easy Ways To Feel Better Immediately When You Need A Timeout

Quote:
1. Drink something.

Fill up your water bottle or glass and drink some water. Drink it slowly and don't do anything else while you're drinking. I always feel better when I drink plenty of water. If you have the time, boil some water and just sip on that as is. And, if you're really needing a boost of goodness, drink some fresh, cold-pressed green juice. I'd be amazed if you didn't feel better after filling yourself with such a high density of nutrients and flavor.

2. Go outside.

Go outside and look around you. For me, when things start to feel crazy, my world starts to feel very small, almost as if it's closing in on me. Going outside and looking around helps me remember that the world is vast, and that my problems are a very small part of this great big world. It helps reduce my problems to a size that's manageable and conquerable. Plus, just looking around at the beauty that surrounds me wherever I am is incredibly healing.

3. Move around.

Get up and walk around. Just move. Shift the energy. Feel your feet as they connect with the ground and let that help you feel more grounded. This is such a good strategy to use if you feel yourself inhabiting an energetic space that doesn't feel very good when you're on an important phone call or in your office at work.

4. Take deep breaths.

This is my favorite because it ALWAYS works. Close your eyes and take some really deep breaths through your nose, drawing the breath all the way down into the lower lobes of your lungs. It is important to breathe through the nose, as this is a deeper, more direct breath that connects to the lower lobes of the lungs and calms our state of mind. Draw the breath all the way down to this space on the inhale and be sure to exhale completely, all the way. Let the breath be soothing and nurturing.

5. Do something nice for someone else.

It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. It could just a simple act of kindness for someone who isn't expecting it. Maybe send a text or an email to someone who you know is going through something, and let them know you're thinking about them. Or, call someone and tell them you love them. Reach out to someone who's supported you in the past and say thank you. Express kindness, gratitude and love and you will undoubtedly feel better right away.

Default water, air, motion

I do the glass of water one and deep breathing.

Now Depending what I am needing a timeout from these work anywhere from very well to not a whole lot I'm afraid.

I find diaphragmatic breathing is the best timeout for relaxation purposes. It mechanically relaxes the body... so that makes sense too.

I do find drinking water one really useful as a grounding tool when my thinking is "off" too... but in this case I use it as a sort of meditation basis... focus on any and every aspect of the water and the drinking process, the wetness, the temperature, the lack of taste, the swallowing, the feel of the glass, the way the water moves in the glass. I also find it helps to use as plain a glass possible as opposed to any other receptacle.

I think I've often done the moving around bit absentmindedly when on the phone... just as the example suggests. That or doodling if I couldn't move around. Kinda like let your fingers do the walking.
