Enjoy rewatching Downton Abbey... as well as the new season. For really good shows, even the reruns are timeless. Here, they haven't given us Season 3 here yet, let alone 4! Oh well...
The acting in Downton Abbey is so good. My favorite is Maggie Smith as Violet Crawley, who was also fabulous as McGonagall in Harry Potter. Mari, I sure hope you get to rest rather than clean today!!!:hug::hug: waves |
Dan Stevens
:I-Agree:
Waves, I am sooooo glad you watched Season I and Season 2. We can talk about that. And how about Lord Grantham's yellow Labrador in the opening credits? So cute . . . Maggie Smith is marvelous. She can act without even have something to say although her quips are so delicious: What is a weekend? I mostly watched the clothes and jewlery and even the makeup. I found stories about how they recyle costumes from other period movies. And I watched some PBS shows about the mansion the director uses to film the "upstairs" scences (A nutty rich couple lives there). The "downstairs" shows are filmed on a lot/ set somewhere near/in London. Matthew!! OMG. :circlelove: I love Dan Stevens. :trampoline:I even went on line to read a couple years of his tweets (Don't do that if you do not want to be spoiled.) Do you remember that Elizabeth McGovern did American movies here in her 20s? I believe she married a brit director and producer. She is one of the weakest actors in season 1 but I like watching for her version of her accent. She is certainly American but the accent has morphed to be more British after living over twenty years in London and raising children. I love listening for the accents and how the director uses them to show character/ class . . . M |
Season 1 and 2 Downton Abbey
“Don’t be defeatist, dear. It’s very middle class.” Violet Crawley to Edith, S2E8
--- This one is perhaps my absolute favorite. “Sir Richard, life is a game in which the player must appear ridiculous.” Violet Crawley, Last Episode, Christmas at Downton Abbey. “1920. Is it to be believed? I feel as old as Methuselah.” Violet Crawley, Last Episode, Christmas at Downton Abbey. This one from Lady Grantham “I’m an American, I don’t share your English hatred of comfort.” Cora Crawley to Lord Grantham, S2E6 This one from Lord Grantham “I want a good man for you, a brave man. Find a cowboy in the Middle West and bring him back to shake us up a bit.” Robert Crawley to daughter Mary. Last Episode, Christmas at Downton Abbey. |
Hi, Mari,
I've actually only seen tiny bits of Season 1 and probably more than half of Season 2. There haven't been reruns so I don't have a strong recollection of it, other than for basic plot status for the various goings on, and some of the characters. Maggie Smith made an impression on me. And I agree that she needs no words to act... her poise and facial expressions are so evocative. I remember some of the quotes you gave. The defeatist one is great! :D It sounds familiar but I'm not actually sure I saw that episode. The thing is, I can just hear her saying that. LOL. waves |
Lamictal update
Hi,
I took 50 mgs of Lamictal Saturday (two nights in a row of 50). I am getting the wormy things in my ear right now. A few months ago when I saw my sleep doc (a neuro) I mentioned the paresthesia and he asked if I had tried to lower the lamictal dose and then come back. . . and such. I asked him if that works sometimes and he said yes. So I will keep hope alive. The cleaning lady did a great job! She likes it when one of us cooks for her. I made 15 bean soup but without the store bought seasoning that comes with the package. I sautéed onioins and garlic separately in walnut oil. Near the end I added tumeric and dashes of pepper and cumin (very light on the cumin). Then I cut up and put on plates whatever was fresh in the fridge: cucumbers, tomatoes, and avocados . . . . . and served them with some store bought hummus. And yes, I felt like I was working all day what with the kitchen and the laundry and trying to keep up with her as she moved from room to room knowing I had to deal somewhat with paperwork before she got to it and potentially made a mess of my scattered papers. Hubby and I are more relaxed when things are neat and tidy and I feel better knowing it is a bit cleaner than usual around here. M |
I am happy that you have someone that you trust and that hubby agrees for her to come in and help you. It is nice that you cooked for her.
I wish hubby would agree to having someone come in....sigh bizi |
I wish my hubby would too.
But at least Derrick is so helpful. Donna :grouphug: |
Hubby
Believe me when I tell you that it takes a lot of my energy to make Hubby feel ok about her coming.
He mostly trusts her personally but when he is grouchy he complains that she does not do good work, that her coming once a month costs us money, . . . . Mari |
