bizi it is approved by the ADA american dental association so that is good to me. no artificial ingredients and no tricloson!
Think I will run over there.

Bizi,

Proctor and Gamble took "Hello" to court and won.
"Hello" no longer claims to be 99% natural.

Quote:

P&G contacted Hello last April to tell them their label was false and misleading because ingredients in Hello’s toothpaste like sodium lauryl sulfate and sorbitol are chemically processed, according to court documents. In June Hello agreed to strip the claim from its next batch of printing. But in January, P&G forced the issue with a lawsuit and the two sides agreed to an injunction to stop selling any toothpaste with that label, starting March 25.
(It seems like a weird law suit because most of the time 99% natural in the US means absolutely nothing legally.
Hemlock and arsenic are natural. As is poison ivy.

Proctor and Gamble I guess have tons of money to pay lawyers.

Not anywhere as bad as hemlock or arsenic, for sure! :D

Natural does not imply healthy.

Artificial does not always imply unhealthy, either.

Hello Everyone!

Brokenfriend has asked me to chime in on this discussion about toothpaste. It is wise to be concerned about the ingredients in the personal care products that we use every day and toothpaste is certainly one of them.

All companies will use all sorts of tactics to market their products to make them sound safe or even healthy irrelevant of whether the ingredients are safe or not. I know this sounds terrible and I always ask myself why is it like this... then a light bulb goes off in my head and it's got $$$$ in it.

The healthiest and most beneficial personal care products to use are those that do not contain toxic chemicals, additives, fluoride, preservatives, dyes, artificial colors, fragrances, flavors, sugar or sugar substitutes. All of those things have negative implications on our immune system especially with repetitive usage. If we keep that in mind, it will help sort through the good products from the not so good ones.

Toothpaste and mouthwash are ingested and absorbed in the oral tissue and tongue. They are not something you can rinse out completely.... thus the "fresh" aftertaste. Whatever remains on your oral tissue and tongue gets ingested when you take that first drink or eat food. This is something that the advertisements do not inform us about. So the products that we use to brush our teeth with go much further into our bodies then most of us realize.

We have been taught to use fluoride in our toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay and in spite of the abundance of evidence pointing against using it, many dentists still recommend it. However, fluoride is actually a poison and it does not prevent tooth decay. It's best to read about that here ....http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...ion-facts.aspx

The best way to reduce tooth decay is by eating a whole food nutritious diet along with mechanical removal of plaque by thoroughly brushing with a soft toothbrush twice a day, floss once a day and scrape the tongue once a day. Toothpaste does not even need to be used. Some sea salt or baking soda and a drop of peppermint oil on a toothbrush not only removes the plaque and reduces the bad bacteria without killing off the good but it naturally whitens the teeth and freshens the breath! Another beneficial food item to brush or rinse your mouth with is coconut oil. Excellent for the health of our gums!!

Some of you are concerned about Triclosan. This chemical is an antifungal and antibacterial agent. This and any chemical like it have no therapeutic benefit in the mouth and it is harmful to living organisms especially when used on a continual basis. This chemical is unfortunately found in many products that are commonly used every day by many people and it is the cumulative effect that causes the most harm because it builds up in the system causing or contributing to ill health. Here's the latest news on this and you will see how the manufacturer vehemently stands behind this in spite of the evidence of it's toxicity....

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...d-cancer.htmlC

Toothpaste should not contain toxic chemicals, sud-zing agents like sodium lauryl sulfate, or any sugar or sugar substitutes. All of which are not safe for human consumption or absorption. There are no therapeutic benefits to using chemicals to brush, floss or rinse our mouths with.

If you are not into making your own toothpaste as I mentioned above, although it is so simple and you can add any essential oil flavor you want, there are some safer brands, although most of them contain some toxic ingredient but not nearly like the toothpastes that are commonly marketed.

Here is a reliable site to search for less or non toxic personal care products including toothpaste.
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/browse/toothpaste/

Later I will post a good toothpaste recipe for those who may be interested in trying it.

I hope this information was helpful Brokenfriend!

Has anyone tried Biotene for Dry Mouth. I have some from my dentist, but I haven't used it yet. I do get Dry Mouth because of my medicines at times.

Sometimes before I fall asleep,I can hardly swallow, and I reach over, and get my bottled water.

This has Xylitol which is super good for the teeth. I think that I will try it tonight. BF:hug::hug::hug:

What's striking to me is that carrageenan has no nutritional value," says Charlotte Vallaeys, director of farm and food policy at the Cornucopia Institute, an organic watchdog group that promotes family-scale farming. The organization has been critical of carrageenan's approved use in organics and recently launched a nationwide petition urging the FDA to ban the ingredient from the food supply.
Carrageenan is in several almond milk and coconut milk products and toms tooth paste. I will see if it is in hello which I am going to have to order on line, not at target either.

Xylitol occurs in nature, but can also be synthetic. No telling which you are getting. In my books it doesn't matter, but then I don't mind eating artificial stuff.

Quote:

Xylitol is produced by hydrogenation of xylose, which converts the sugar (an aldehyde) into a primary alcohol. It can also be extracted from natural sources, and is often harvested by tapping birch trees to produce birch sap. Another method of producing xylitol is through microbial processes, including fermentative and biocatalytic processes in bacteria, fungi, and yeast cells, that take advantage of the xylose-intermediate fermentations to produce high yield of xylitol.[13]
Regardless of whether natural or artificial, the chemical seems to have dental benefits:

Quote:

Early studies from Finland in the 1970s found compared to chewing sucrose-flavored gum, xylitol resulted in nearly two fewer cavities or missing teeth.[23] Cavity-causing bacteria prefer six-carbon sugars or disaccharides, while xylitol is non-fermentable and cannot be used as an energy source - while still being taken up into the cell (due to similar shape) and leaving no room for the six-carbon sugars, interfering with bacterial growth and reproduction. The harmful micro-organisms are starved in the presence of xylitol, allowing the mouth to remineralize damaged teeth with less interruption.
.
.
Xylitol also inhibits the growth of Streptococcus pneumoniae, as well as the attachment of Haemophilus influenzae on the nasopharyngeal cells.[22]

I buy a two pound bag of KAL Xylitol. It's safe, and I've talked to Bryanna about it. She recommended Xylitol for my teeth. On some website you can get a three pound bag cheaper, but I like the KAL Xylitol because it's dryer, and not sticky like some of the others. It's all natural, and the other ingredient is Calcium Silicate. BF:hug::hug::hug:

bizi 08-27-2014 11:16 PM

yes xylitol is good for your teeth!
It can cause diarrhea if you ingest too much.
I like my gum!

I brush my teeth, and then put Xylitol in a cold purified drinking water bottle, and shake it up for awhile, and bring it with me to bed. I push the water with Xylitol between my teeth, and let it soak in where ever. It's suppose to be good for the nose, and inner ear.

I've used it for along time, but recently stopped because I'm using Probiotics. I'm not sure but the xylitol might kill the healthy bacteria that probiotics creat in the intestines. I may have this all wrong. I read something about that but I don't remember the source, and it may have been false.

I need to do some more research on Probiotics, and Xylitol. It's definitely good for the teeth. I'm going to stop here, and do a little research on this. BF:hug::hug::hug:

I'm responding to something that I learned,so I'm Xing out Kal Xylitol. I believe that it's from China, with no birch origins, and may not help the teeth.

Zveet Xylitol (5 pound bags)no GMOs,is made from Birch trees. This looks like the best for the money.

Good day today.
weighed 150 so happy about that. drank 2 cups of coffee with half and half and liquid stevia.
Slept in late, went to chris's for our usual lunch: chef salad with only turkey because I am trying to not eat ham, over a bed of cabbage instead of ice berg lettuce. white and yellow cheese were also on the salad, I used a remulaude dressing, yum!
Saw a couple of clients this afternoon. last little lady is 98 and loves bright red polish! We always have a nice visit, I was there almost 2 hours!
Aside from that:
I started using whitening strips for my teeth. I have only used them 3 times and I think my teeth are already whiter. They are unpleasant but my teeth were getting so yellow. I will put up with them, they work!
2 nights ago I started using acne free products again(like proactive with benzo peroxide but cheaper), was using acanya gel(clindimycin and benzo peroxide) at night but my co pay was going to go up to $80 so decided to go back to what I was using before my rosacea flare up 3 years ago. Wish me luck!
I started using Tom's tooth paste because I did not like that crest used sacharin and sodium laurel sulfate in their product.
dinner tonight included left over quinoa and tomato soup, 1 1/2 cups of cantelope and a smoothie(I used too much spices)kale and strawberries, protein powder, maca root powder, tumeric and other spices.
I also had 1/4 cup of smoked almonds...I know they are not good for me because of the artificial ingredients and too much salt!
Jeff is at the foot ball game getting rained on, light rain, it poured earlier and we were afraid it was going to rain heavily. It is being shown on espn2, I hope we still have a good turn out and that the marching band performs well. I am not into sports.
Jeff bought me my favorite mikes black cherry drink hard lemonade, not sure if/when I am going to drink them, may have one later, they are full of sugar which I am trying to avoid!

bizi 08-31-2014 10:02 AM

Did not drink last night.:) So it is in the house and I did not succumb!
Slept well, remembered a dream which I normally don't.
It was all about money and trying to withdraw monies out of the bank and not being able to. A scarcity dream, I must be worrying about money.
bizi
I was on the computer for 5 hours yesterday.....

Brokenfriend 08-31-2014 07:06 PM

Hey Bizi. I worry about money also. The times that we live in are very unstable. BF:hug::hug::hug:

I had 3 eggs with spinach and a side of brocolli and a cup of mixed fruit for lunch. then we went to the shrimp and petroleum festival out of town in morgan city.
had hurricanes to drink and bbq and white beans and potato salad and rice. very good. shared 3 hurricanes that were strong. spent the day there shopping and enjoying ourselves. bought an air plant and a t shirt for a friend of jeffs for christmas.
going out for more drinks so today is a drinking day.
