My last day here.

It is 70 degrees and sunny. Sitting on the porch with the laptop drinking apple juice and coffee, and smoking.

The toddler is inside for now. I will let him use the computer after I am done, and decide which buttons to disable. He keeps getting the context menu which is:
1. boring for him, other than the time he accidentally pasted a huge-fonted "stereospecfic lorazepam" into his sketch.
2. can get into system settings and set me into a tizzy fighting him off while I get out of them, preferably without saving. He doesn't like my hands on the computer while he's "using it". I make sure tell him, "The computer is MINE. I am sharing with you, but I get to say how we play."

And there you have something of a forecast of my day, with packing and maybe laundry, and maybe a shower, or not, stuffed in between.

That toddler is fun as long as you are keeping an eye on him.

Good luck packing.

The good thing about packing on the B part of the trip is that
1. the actual items themselves do not seem as vital
2. the concerns of the visit (for the most part) are coming to a close.

. . . sort of like "clean up" in baseball when the inning has been achieved.

Packing is not a big deal. Just stuff things in the suitcase and check for stray items. I keep all my stuff together, so even that won't be a big deal.

I'm not really dealing with any of that yet ... I will do bits and pieces between normal hanging around things.

The toddler is fun, but the physical, mental and emotional attention level required is overwhelming. I can only do a few minutes at a time. I can't imagine being a mother.

We had the other one here yesterday morning. The two of them are so cute together. The boy pulls out the girl's chair for her, and pulls up her sleeve for her when it drops off. They hold hands and periodically give each other hugs and a kiss on the cheek. He tried to kiss her on the mouth once and she told him, "No! On the CHEEEEEKKK". She fussed so much when she had to go home last night. She didn't want to be separated. He patted her and told her. We don't know if he knows why she was upset. I think maybe.

The sky is clouding up. That's ok. It's just kind of mellow. But I was going to walk to Publix as we are out of smokes, so I probably should go before it decides to pour.

Weather here is decidedly autumnal.

We are now having, daily:

Grey sky
Heavy mist
Light rain
Temps steady in 40°'s, day and night.
Dusk light level, even during the day sometimes.

The leaves are falling... lots of red maple-like shaped ones on the ground (they are not maples they are something else I can't remeber the name.)

I can get on in it. I'm all set with all of my warm clothes... Have already converged on outfit of outdoor things for these temps.

Happy camper.

I go out and walk in the rain, and smoke, almost every day and sometimes at night. I especially like to go walking at night.

Is it normally colder than 40 for this time of year?
today it was 72 and sunny, we were in the 40's not that long ago.
strange weather...but love the sunny day and working in the yard.

These temps are quite normal for here and now. There is plenty of time for it to cool down, yet. It's not even Winter just yet!

Besides, it will drop another 20 degrees, but that's it. Doesn't hardly ever get into the teens here.... or only just barely. In 2001 we got some weird Siberian something and it went to 14°F, but that was a record. And I was seriously freezing my butt walking from the subway to work (15 mins) that year.

Your yardwork sounds fabulous, but also exhausting. Who needs the gym when you have the yard!
I guess, when all the work is done, you have a yard which is fabulous, and also relaxing.

I've always been a night-owl too, which tended to lead to night excursions of whatever form is most handy (foot, car). I used to grocery shop at 3 am -- it's great, no people! And drive 40 mins to get to a 24 hr Walmart. I lived right near 24 hr Albertsons in two places, and would sometimes walk to those at crazy hours but usually had a male friend along. But I really really like being out in the dark, alone. The area where I am now is quite well lit, and it just feels peaceful. The only reason I don't go out at like 3 or 4 am is coz the noise of the door would wake my parents and then my mom would worry and fuss -- about me and about waking up "the whole condo". Sigh. That's ok.

Some places I've lived I didn't go out, because I didn't feel safe. Trust your instincts. IMHO if you feel chicken, that's a good enough reason not to go.

In CA, I was followed in my car a couple times, at 3 or 4 am. The one time, I went to a lot of trouble to "lose" the guy, and then, just in case, took a really circuitous route home, so that if he happened to see me I'd be going in a "fake" direction. I had an Albertson's close there too (what is it with living next to Albertson's everywhere?), but would not walk there alone. Another time, a guy followed me to Albertsons from Walgreens, where he had asked me a question inside the store. At Albertsons, I deliberately took the handicapped spot -- very well lit and near store windows, plus potential to attract a cop . He parked next to me and then wanted my phone number. I had med bottles in the back - he wanted to know what I took. (I was taking Lithium back then, I shoulda been like, dude, have one o' these and chill. ) I went into the store and waited until he had cleared out. And then instead of driving the mere 200 yards home, I went towards the interstate and looped around through back roads... just in case.

Suspicion is your friend sometimes.

Sometimes I was stupid but only once or twice or thrice was very very very lucky.
Most of the time, I was just a little stupid.

I do remember lots of late night/early morning trips to drive a money order across town to a crappy area where the electric company had a drop off box (kind of like a mail slot).
(Usually I would call in the late afternoon before to let them know that they would have the payment.
I got the payment turned in a couple of hours before
my lights would have been shut off.)

THIS DOES COUNT as a weather post because I had no A/C in the car and nights were the best time to go out.
