I think its a preference of what the cat or dog eats. We have always
given cats and dogs the treat of wet food a couple times a week. Now when Wendy quit eating completely because of old age and not feeling well. We gave her wet food. But it had to be a specific one. She loved eggs and bread. So we gave her bread also. And when she wouldn't touch dog food, we made her eggs two or three days a week. donna |

Vets nowadays, recommend wet food as the dominant food for elderly cats. It is supposed to be better for the kidneys.
Dry is ok as a fill in between meals as long as plentiful clean water is given. Cats are creatures of habit. They prefer the same dish for their food. We feed two separate dishes, and even then they stick to their own dish! We use dry food by Blue Buffalo...it has the best ingredients. Weezie goes nuts for their Wilderness Duck flavor. And we have a friend who feeds the duck to her cats (4) too...which they prefer. Whiskas has a pouch line called Purrfectly Chicken . http://www.amazon.com/WHISKAS-PURRFE.../dp/B0029NII3C Our cats really like this type. I give them small treats of human chicken, salmon and shrimp. Not a full meal, but just as an extra. They love our food. We always have some left over chicken tenders from the previous day's dinner. (this is unseasoned). Our late beloved Oreo loved whipped cream! So we gave her a small shot of that. (we discovered that her birth home gave this to the cats they kept, when Oreo was adopted by us during the fall season, and I had Thanksgiving dinner with whipped cream and pumpkin pie.. She jumped up to the table, stuck out her front leg and paw and dragged the plate waiting for hubby over to HER! ) So that became her treat. I would shake the can and call ---Chooka chooka-- which is what we called it because of the sound it made, and she would come running from wherever she was to get it! It was handy over the years, when traveling to get her into her carrying cage. This is Oreo on vacation in 2011, one year before she died of cancer. She was about 12 when this photo was taken.

If you leave kibble out for any length of time, the scents that make it attractive to cats, evaporate and they then refuse to eat it. You can put it in a ziploc, add some fresh and let the scents mix and try it again.
Just put out a little bit at a time when they seem hungry. Misu probably ate a cheap brand when she was at the rescue place. And is just used to that. Cats are creatures of habit...and sometimes won't accept new things. Hubby says ours will eat like crazy one day... a particular can type and the next week will refuse it. So there are sometimes no real answers to their whims.

I have one cat that we have now had almost a year maybe going on 2.
He will eat anything when it comes to cat food. (He will even eat dog food) The other kitty really likes two or three kinds. So we try to buy those for both. Also this one will try the dog food, but that is all. Our little guy Nipper who is a dog. We have found will eat cat food now better than dog food. Not sure why but they do. Donna |

Well I guess my biggest concern, is the cat food hurting my little Nipper
who is 18 or so years old. Because he honestly likes it better. He wont hardly eat the dog food. But we only put it out when its gone. And if I know the cats have eaten the dog food, which isn't much at a time. Then I don't put any out till next day. Because dog eats cat food. They all love a treat of wet food a couple times a week. And treats. Donna |
