Default disability talk with poc

Pdoc said yesterday that she wants to work on getting me on disability.

She wants hubby to come to the next appt in three weeks. I told her that he would freak out hearing about disability.

=-=-
I told him that my pdoc wants to see us together next time but I did not mention the disability part to him.
I want him to hear from her about how hard things are for me.

=-=-=-=
=-=-=-=

Here's the weird thing: I slept well Wednesday night and got up early THursday to go to the beach to walk and have breakfast.

Now I am trying to keep from napping so I can go to bed around 9 or 10 p.m.tonight

Maybe you feel some relief that she gets it.
How do you feel?
How was the beach?

We cannot afford my stopping work.
She told me that I could get better if I were not working and that people do get better and go back to work or do things part time.

The talk with the pdoc could go two or more or many ways:
1. he gets upset -- generally about a new thing (any new thing)
2. he get upset because he does not have the power to fix the situation or fix me.
3. he gets . . . . .

I might use the meeting as a way to "bargain" with him even though the
pdoc is not a psychologist and will be doing the talking with only some listening.

For now, I do not want to tell him anything about "DISABILITY."
I only told him that the pdoc wants to talk about how to help me be better.

Mari

You might want to look into how much you can get with ssdi.

I don't know how much you make a month but it might be
something to check in to so you have all the information.

When/if you apply for ssdi, the date that you apply is the date that they give benefits. You may get denied several times but they will give you back pay lump sum payment. A lawyer is usually used if you can afford one.

It will be good for her to tell him as it seems that he responds better with out side input.
I don't know that for sure.

When do you meet with her?

NOSSCR |
this is an agency that refers ssdi lawyers. they take a fixed sum. if you apply you don't need a lawyer because you can always get one if you are are turned down. a strong case is when you have a good support from your psychiatrist. I was turned down but then I got a lawyer from that agency who was wonderful and dr. m. was wonderful and the lawyer had me bring alice who probably was wonderful. after 2 years you get medicare or something like that. I collected after not working for 15 years but that was a strange case. I think the usual is five years. I totally broke down but didn't apply at first because i didn't think i was eligible. I wonder if your parents could help you out financially. I wonder if you would ask. I wonder if they were in a position to help. we all know what it is like to suffer

SSDI benefits are not awarded based on when you apply. They are based on the date when SSA decides you became disabled, usually based on information provided by your doctor(s) or when you prove you became unable to work.

There are 3 phases. Initial filing and review of your case, a second review if you are turned down, and a hearing if you have been turned down a second time. Age is a factor. If you are older, you are more likely to be approved in one of the initial stages, and are less likely to have to go through a hearing. The experience your doctor(s) have with the process, and their good documentation, are factors as well. Since the process can be very long, you can be eligible for back payments based on the date SSA decided you became disabled, and when you you have been approved for benefits. A lawyer will take a percentage of that sum if you hire one, which I suggest you do if you decide to file and are denied in the initial stage. There's a cap on the percentage they can take, but I forget what it is. You aren't eligible for Medicare immediately. There's a 2 year waiting period from when you have been declared disabled.

The amount of money you receive is based on how much money you have made recently, paid into social security, and some other voo-doo they do. It will not be a lot. Everyone should get a social security statement every year that tells them the amount that they would receive, but it usually goes in the trash.

There is a "ticket to work" program that allows SSDI recipients to make up to either $900 or $1000 a month without losing benefits. I don't know the ins and outs of it though. I don't know if you can qualify for the program immediately.

I think it's a very wise idea that you are having your husband accompany you to the appointment so that he can hear from your pdoc the extent to which everything is effecting you, whether or not you want to go on disability. He needs to hear it laid out clearly from someone else... to hear that your situation rises to that level, and things are that difficult for you

I hope the appointment goes well

And I hope you have managed to continue to get some good sleep

My son worked for 10 years. And then the lead he worked with and
his mental health disabilities got the better of him.

He worked in a factory and made varies amounts with different jobs.
But in his case he also worked overtime a lot when the company was
doing well. He was approved the first time luckily. He didn't have a
lawyer then at all.

He went to their psychiatrist and their regular doctor for his issues.
Which isn't unusual in Indiana for many cases.

I am actually working. We return from Summer early August.

I would have to stop work to show that I cannot work.

=-=-=
And I prefer to work. I think I would get even worse if I were home.

And everyone above seems to have situations that are entirely different from each other.

I went to to gov web site and it had lots of questions but I do not want
to fill out private info on the web -- it is not a secure site.
