I have had issues with mild depression. I've mentioned it here and there on NeuroTalk. I've had freakishly good luck with vitamin therapy...D3 and the B's. I recognize that this is a very fortunate thing.
Our close relative has Bipolar Disorder. She is adopted...not blood related. I have thought of giving her low doses of Vitamin D and a B Complex (surely they are out there someone) and suggesting she try them if she finds herself depressed to see if it helps her. Maybe just take it for 3-5 days. I just don't know. Has anyone experimented with something like this? Is it likely to cause a manic episode? Is it a relatively safe thing to do? Does anyone take these vitamins regularly? Did it cause any issues at all for you? Thank you. |

B vitamins are water soluble so you can take them without much worry... the excess is passed out through the urine. Vitamin D is a different story. As Bizi mentioned, levels need to be monitored.

Because he needed something, and getting to a psychiatrist for meds was/is going to be at least another month or two.
I bought St. John Wart and SAMe for him. He takes the St John Wart as directed but we found that he didn't need as much SAMe as recommended. Its helped his depression and other issues a lot. This is my son Dan. He is bi-polar and other issues. And stops taking meds, And then doesn't do what he needs for his insurance all the time. So we are seeing how this works for him. But I'm interested in the B's and then D's because of his lead levels from his job. That he now gets Disability insurance from. I am not sure that part makes sense. But he worked in a battery factory and his lead would skyrocket. Donna |

I started taking vitamin D because I have MS. There is a theory that vitamin D has a positive effect on the immune system and that maintaining adequate levels could reduce the frequency and/or severity of relapses.
