Default Questioning my ability to work

I just screwed up big time at work. I got my backside reamed by a branch in Florida because of something I did and accidentally stepped on some territorial toes. Right now I am questioning whether or not I am truly able to be here. I keep thinking I am doing a good job but something happpens and I seem to not be. This was after a branch manager stated that I was doing a good job yesterday.
I have only been here an hour and all heck has broken loose. My boss is in CA and I can't talk to her for another hour or so.
I feel so stupid thinking I could do this right now. I also want a quart of ice cream!
UGH!

Wendy,

It is easy to make mistakes. I would say to pick yourself up and carry on. Hugs to you.

Don't be so hard on yourself. The job is new to you, and it's normal to make mistakes when still learning the job.

I wouldn't worry, just take it a minute at a time.

Sending some ice cream....

Hugs, Nikko

Wendy

I think you will do just fine.

And this is what happens sometimes when others think they are the
ones that know it all.

So I would take some deep breaths and wait on your supervisor.

Default Update

Well, my boss stood by me. She fought with the branch for me and I felt much better. But then by the end of the day I did something else wrong. I just wish I wasn't in the office alone. My boss along with the rest of the department is in CA and I am here in MA.
Today she is off so I hope that everything works out okay. I am sure glad that it is Friday. I need a breather.

Heart

((((((Wendy)))))),

Did I ever tell you about the time I deleted five years worth of long-range plans from the main-frame computer

None of us is perfect (even though we like to think we are)

You learn from your mistakes and you move on. Women tend to have great difficulty doing that (all those non-helpful, not-true words run through our heads: 'stupid', 'incompetent', 'idiot'). You did something wrong. Fix it. And move on.

You might want to have a little (short -- very brief) talk with yourself and see why this has happened again. Are you working without enough information?? Were you not given as much training as you needed??

Most of us who take new jobs are thrown into the ocean and told to swim -- while we're still saying to ourselves "ocean?? what's that??"

Give yourself a hug. Slow down a bit. If you're not sure about a decision, you can always say "I need to check one more fact, let me call you back:.

You might also arrange with the boss to have a phone call every morning and every afternoon for another week or so until you're more sure of what you're doing. Or even arrange with the boss to AIM a couple of times a day. Just to touch base and have him/her available for any questions.

I worked on a contract once for the IT Director of a hospital. Very busy man. He had a signal -- text message "911" to him when we really needed him. It was good to know that we had that available because sometimes you really CANNOT handle everything.

Give yourself a HUG. Buy yourself some flowers. And accept that you're still learning and growing.

BIG HUGS.

Barb

I'm so glad the boss sided and took on the Branch for you.

I'm also not surprised by the end of the day. You had another
small problem.

But I say dont' worry about it.

Just realize that it was the stress of the day.

Default long week

Wendy it was a long week, and the mistakes happen to everyone. The fact your boss stood up for you weighs a lot. Things are going to happen when you are new because you do not know and have not handled all that the others has managed so far.

I admiore that you took on the job for you. Youo can only do what you can, and enjoy being o9ut. Nothing is in stone and down the line if things are not improving and you need to look for somethign else or take a break that is OK too,

But, it really sounds like you are fine,
