Default Bad day at the mdoc's. I lost it and cried.

Hi,
I freaked when the mdoc's office said I had no appointment for my yearly check up.

They fit me in, but with an mdoc instead of the PA whom I am used to.

I cried in front of the nurse. She kept asking what was wrong. I was not able to answer even simply questions.

The dr was okay but annoyed me about my meds. He asked me if I take vitamins and then reminded me to take calcium and vit d.
Calcium supplements are not recommended for someone like me on Verapamil -- A CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER. Calcium negates the the mood stabilizing effects and other good effects of the Verapamil.

I got out of there feeling miserable so I came home and took a long nap.
'Just woke up.

Red face

I am glad that you were able to nap....
sorry about their mixed up appointment and very happy that they worked you in and you did not have to make another appointment.
It really throughs me when I see someone else...kind of like having to go all thru our stuff again hx's etc...cause that person really doesn't know you...when my mdoc left...I thought I would have to go thru my whole hx with her...that did not happen the chart went to the new doctor.
anyway...
I am sorry that you cried...when I am overwhelmed I do that too...
then people are too nice....makes me want to crawl under a rock.
hang on to your hubby.
((((HUGS))))

Mari

Sorry you had a mix up. But I'm so glad they worked you in.

I think the mdoc, needs a wake up call on meds though. He/she needs
to read up on why things are given, and what you don't take with it.

Sounds like you know it well. And thanks for the little bit on veraplimin.

I didn't know that, and I take it too. But I have never taken a calcium extra.
But some have been pushing it. So I'm so glad you made that point. Now I can state the reason why not.

My husband is big on this stuff, and its not something I've done well on.
So I don't want to start.

Last year my appointment was screwed up too.

I had vowed that I would find a new mdoc but I put it off and got distracted by other medical stuff.

I've seen today's dr before. Today he was slightly less creepy than he was in the past.

maybe after the holidays and during your break...you could make an appointment for a new mdoc..
Do have any friends or collegues that could reccomend someone for you?
I hate feeling creeped out....

Donna,
Every once in a while I try to catch up on the current science about calcium supplements. I find the info confusing and think that the science is still catching up with itself.

I think I can handle a small amount of extra calcium in supplements before the Verapamil starts to get effected. Also I think that Magnesium and D3 (sunlight) and exercise and hormones and all kinds of other stuff perhaps play a bigger role in our bone health than calcium does.

I'll be glad when science can be more helpful.

Yes.
I promise myself to work on this.
A colleague is married to a nurse practitioner so I have a connection. I have found that nurses give the best recommendations.

Default hi Mari

i totally broke down in my mdoc's office once. to hand her a form to keep and send on as bureaucratic procedure. she didn't want it and was quite vehement. the procedure was different.

this was after i was in her waiting room for over an hour crammed with people old ladies yacking arrogant idiots loudmouthing on cellphones and children bad breaths people bumping into one or jiggling chairs but i wanted to be NORMAL and BRAVE and NOT take any lorazepam. HAH.

by the time i actually did get into her office i was springloaded.

when she handed me back that form saying it was my job to forward it and give her a copy, i started sobbing myself sick trying to choke out words, finally pointed somewhere in the area i know my dx was coded, on the stupid piece of paper i had gone there to hand her. besides it was an authorization form - either for zyprexa or seroquel... but either one screams... like, i'm NOT ok.

i had another bad (not emotional at the time, but it eats at me) experience last night, asking something about my blood test interpretation.

i hate this stuff. and getting tossed around too. i was lucky in the clinic, but when i moved to my parents, i had to change GP. had to. not just for convenience. regulations. my old GP had her high horse she could get on... but she wasn't always that way, AND she was VERY good. she would also give me clinical answers to things i asked.

the time i broke down in her office. after she sorted me out. she told me if i ever came in not feeling right again not to worry about the lorazepam to grab her the first patient came out, and she would take me right away.

bla bla bla bla.

i hope you keep your promise to yourself

Mari - I am glad you were able to get in, at least that is over with.

I went once on the wrong day, and got turned away, another time my mom was late and they wouldn't take her. Two different Dr's.

Hopefully, you can find a new m-doc, or get back with the PA you like.

I bet that nap felt really good.
