Hi,
I went to the grocery store just before they closed tonight.
The only pies that were left were the fruit pies (yuck), a peanut butter thing (an abomination!), and a half of key lime.

I am enjoying a piece by myself.

today I cooked 3 pies, a pumpkin, a pecan chew which is my favorite and another pumkin with pecans on top.
I love key lime pie though!!!!!
I like cherry pie and french silk pie...most desert for the most part...and love love love chocolate anything!.....the list goes on and on...lol

I got my mom a cherry pie, she loves that, she had a piece for breakfast. LOL

I have a frozen chocolate creme pie too.

I am thinking about cocconut pie but didn't feel up to making one so I don't have it. I have a broccoli casserole in the oven now.

I know apple pie, is big here[UK],,,,have you heard of CRUMBLE'S?, Any fruit filling you desire, then make short crust pastry mix[add sugar] dont form a dough ball just sprinkle crumgs over fruit and bake....Add Custard..



Steamed puddings the most famous being ...wait for it and please dont laugh it realy is called this Spotted ****..[ dried fruit based sponge cake. made with suet pastry, and steamed ]

What about Bakewell Tart, yummyyyyyy....Almondieee, spongeeee filling , with pastry base... and icing type top.........Baked cooking apples[peeled and cored, filled with sweet mince meat wraped in puff pastry served with huge amounts of fresh cream..

ps. is Pumpkin a sweet pie or Savoury pie?? [ dumb question you think, ..but if i dont ask i will never know]

-Spotted D*** : I think that the Canadians eat this. But I don't think I have ever had it.

-Bakewell Tart : I looked this up on Wikipedia. It looks like good, except those almond-based crusts are not not common here.

-Baked Apples : we eat these. I'm trying to think of anyone who stuffs them with meat.... Sounds strange to me.
We do stuff cabbage or tomatoes or green peppers with meat for a savory dish.

-Suet : I don't think we cook with this. We use different fats. That sounds gross to us.

-Steamed puddings -- not so much, I think. Does Bread Pudding count? Or Boston Baked Brown Bread? Flan?

Yeah, the pie thing gets big in the winter months, esp. Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And although people in the US do eat savory pie, for this holiday and in this thread we are talking about sweet pies.

I don't cook -- combination of meds and bipolar interfere with safety in the kitchen but I can find a recipe.

My mother would find ways to simplify that list of ingredients and cut out some steps, but this looks about right for pumpkin pie.
I don't like pumpkin pie. I love sweet potato pie -- they are similar. Do you eat sweet potatoes?

-Cobblers -- those are fruit pies with a drop biscuit crust on top and no crust on the bottom. When I was a teenager and lived in a rural area I used to make these with summer fruit we had picked or picked and frozen for winter.


Savory Pies in our repertoire include

-Quiche (I used to cook this a lot in my twenties because it is easy.)
-Shepherd's pie (I remember this from school cafeterias.)
-Pot Pie (Throw leftovers between two pieces of crust. We usually buy these frozen.)

-Calzones (We would get these in an restaurant.)
-Can we count Pizza Pie?

-Pizza is huge here and even those of us who can't cook can figure out ways to make it. We can buy it everywhere or telephone and have it delivered. Even small towns in the middle of nowhere with small populations have pizza places. My mother used to make a meatless pizza every Friday.
Probably you have pizza too.

-meat pies like the Jamaican meat pie....also
-empanadas from the Spanish,. . . . These are savory of course.
