Hi Friends,
Hubby's gym buddy is a pyschologist. Tomorrow he is accompanying the gym buddy to a workshop/conference on "antipsychotics" sponsored by drug companies. Last month they went to work shops on depression and insomnia. This is unrelated to what hubby does for a living. He says he finds it interesting. And the drug companies are not checking ids at the door. They give the power point and lunch to anyone who signs up apparently. Hubby explained to me last month that having depression is like loosing the hardware in your computer -- you need professional help. But he needs to hear things more than once --> he asked me me why people who are depressed "can't just get over it." I pointed to his handouts from the workshop. He asked me to come up with a question for him to ask at the conference tomorrow "because last time people asked some dumb questions." No. ![]() Mari |

God works in mysterious ways...
How wondrous that your husband doesn't have a clue about depression...have you told him how fortunate he is? Bobby |

Dear Bobby,
I hadn't thought about it in exactly the terms you use. He is fortunate that hw doesn't know what depression is from experience and I can be glad for him. The therapist today told me that he might be going to these workshops as a way to be closer to me.....or something like that....I was in bad shape and don't remember everything that she said. Mari |

Dear Mari,
I am sorry that you were in a bad way today...glad that your therapist is there for you. Question for him for the conference which by the way is great that he can go and yes I think it is his way of learning more about mental health issues to better understand..... It seems that anti psychotics are sedating for the most part. How addictive are they and do we build up a tolerance to them? thanks bizi

Dear Bizi,
I asked him your questions and asked if the presenters covered it or if anyone in the group asked. He is very new to this. He didn't remember hearing anything about addiction or tolerance per se. He did say that the presenters talked a lot about constantly making dose adjustments and med switches based on side effects, clinical observations, and reports from the patients. They stressed that this is important to good patient care and good patient response. 'Wish I could be of more help. Mari |
