Confused Called Pharmacy and...............

I called the pharmacy to have my mom's prescription of Cymbalta refilled, well she has 5 refills but before 1/28/08.

See, since I was sharing mine with her so she wouldn't have to pay, her script ran out.

They told me they would give her 3 pills, until they can contact her DR.

Well, I really don't want her to go off them, with all her problems, she isn't bipolar but, with all her heart/seizure/stroke history I am afraid something bad would happen.

So, in a nut shell, I am screwed, until her Dr. calls in a complete refill, and that could take days with him, it's her PCP and he isn't great at getting right back to you.

My mom says I should take them instead. I am too afraid to do that to her.

So tonight will be day 2 of no cymbalta. The headache went away, but I have NO appetite, I doubt that has anything to do with missing just one night.

So, say a prayer......I think I may need a few.

I will check in when I can.

That's all I can say now.

I put myself in this stupid situation and now I have to pay.

Bye, Nikko

Niiko can you split the three pill sin half until you can get ahold of your doc. Even though its a lower dose you and your mom would not be completely off of them.

Just a thought

Confused

My script they won't refill until Feb 28th. I already missed one day, this is day 2. I was reading some things and I felt tears, boy I haven't cried or teared up in a long time, maybe I need to.

You mean split the capsule? I have to think if they are two pieces or all one piece. I can't remember.

Dirk says I am already acting irritable/bitchy - whatever.........

Then a big ordeal because I am not hungry and didn't eat with my mom and him. I am having my iced coffee, which I love, so why can't they just leave me be.

Oh, think I need to get dressed and take a walk ALONE, no with my dogs, or go sit at the pool ALONE. I don't know, can't make up my mind.

Hey Nikko.... I don't think this is the ideal situation but I would get the three pills, you take one tonight, your mom tomorrow and you on Tuesday. That would theorectically buy you until Thursday, neither one of you going more that 48 hours without it. My thoughts are that maybe the "withdrawal" can't be that bad in such a short period of time and in essence it will be approximately like half strength over 48 hours. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ALL THE TIME, IT IS MY UNEDUCATED ADVICE ONLY SINCE YOU APPEAR TO BE IN A JAM. If I remember correctly Cymbalta is a capsule so cutting it in half wouldn't be such a good idea. And as you know, sharing medication isn't such a good idea even though your were trying to help your Mom out.

And be the squeaky wheel, you or your Mom pester the doctors office to call in the refill. Don't wait.

That's my advice, Good Luck.

Well, we are both on the same exact dosage 60mg per day, the pills are exactly alike, even the bottles. So, I didn't think sharing was bad, it was because of the price she has to pay, and I don't.

So, she will get her's filled this week, 30 and I can take them and so can she, and I can get my refill on the 28th.

As far as the 3 I get today, I don't know if I can split them.

Got to think about this more.

Dear Nikko,

I'm glad that you called the pharmacy and found out what is up about the refills. Now you have a plan to call the PCP on Monday. That is good.
Today you can go pick up the three pills.

If you want to split the pills in half you have to open up the capsules and swallow half of the pellets. But don't take my word for it. Call a pharmacist and ask please.

Do you have any other pills in the house? Effexor? Any other SSRIs? You can call your pdoc on Monday and ask if you can take them to get you through a few days so you can then taper.

And you don't have to read a bunch of scary stuff on the Internet.
A pharmacist is your best bet for good information about how to handle this.

Unhappy

THe pharmacist may have some empty gel capsules that you could buy so that way you could seperate the doses into halves they jsut pull apart but be bvery careful doing that so that they don't go all over your counter.
It really is not hard to do.
hang in there
since you have a benzo to take you could use that if you are starting to feel off.
Benadryl also helps to take the edge off....

I don't know if there is any chance the pharmacist would consider letting
you have 6 of the 30 mg in stead of 3 of the 60mg.

It might be worth a try.
