Default Weekend Check In Time Sunday April 13

How is everyone?
If you want, drop a line or a few words so that we can stay connected and keep the community.

As for me, I'm doing ok.
Saturday was hard for some reason. I got to the mall for a haircut and found that my hairdresser was out because his mother (at 92 yrs old) had passed away the night before. And yes, they had called me at home to let me know, but I never check my messages.

For some reason this info threw me off for the rest of day.
I felt sensitive and depressed and talking to my cousin, my mother, and my sister kind of made things worse.

Hubby helped once I finally spoke up and said, "I am having a problem."
I need to be clear with him and I forget that sometimes.

Otherwise, I am doing ok -- have gym plans for Sunday and am looking forward to handling stuff during the work week.

Hi Mari,

Sorry you had that experience, it is upsetting seeing other people we interact with having to face death of a parent, it makes us think about our own parents and how long they have left. I know it does for me at any rate. I am so fearful of losing my mom, I think about it all the time when we're together.

She's going to be 61 this year. *sigh* she's all I have left and I hate the thougth of being alone except for Jackie and his dad. Still I know some day it's going to happen, and I can't help anything by worrying, yet her health is not the best. SO I just can't help but to worry.

Anyway, enough of that, we had a great time yesterday aside from some anxiety I had over not getting a RX from the pharmacy that they forgot to put in with the ones we picked up, so PITA that that was we had to go back by the pharmacy. Yet I did pretty well controlling the anxiety we had from the moment we left because it was for my son and we were out of it so it was pretty important that we get it for him.

We got a new inflatable pool yesterday at Big Lots and it was the last one they had in the 120 X 120 at 22 inches deep. Got in and had a great time with Jackie. I have to clean the car out today, we clean the car twice a month and this time I have leather conditioner for the seats. So it will be a lot more work then it was before I got that stuff but they need it. So what's a gal to do. LOL!

Hope everyone else is having a great weekend, Nikko if you're out there please post and let us know you're all right.

Red face

Well I feel beter this morning not the horrible sore throat that I had yesterday...I jsut lounged around yesterday....did not do much of anything, did drink a lot of chicken broth...kind of like gargling with salt water....
sorry to whine just a bit....I think taking alegra really helps with the symptoms even though I don't think I have allergies...that is what a doctor told me to take one year when I had a bad sinus infection...nip it in the bud and it has worked for me...wonder if allegra is still a prescription?
Am going to a pot luck at a unitarian fellowship service , hubby made a huge salad this morning while I took a shower.
I am not finished yet (like I thought) with my tax stuff.
I don't have the coupon to make my quarterly income tax payment...it is due by the 15th. I can't even remember how I get those...I think they usually just come to me in the mail.
Am afraid that I will have to call them tomorrow....might be a long time on hold since it is close to the dead line....
~sigh
Pam I am so glad that you were able to get a new pool and hopefully Jackie will be able to control his impulses....
Hi Mari, Wonder if you were able to get your hair done by someone else???...I like them washing my hair...it is so relaxing. I hope you have a great week.
I will be doing some marketing for my business which has slowed over the past few months...need to hit the pavement!
I hope you all can find some joy in this day.

Hi all,

Its been a cold but good weekend here. Yesterday took one daughter in law to use her food stamps grocery shopping. Can't seem to get her to realize
that when I'm treating we shouldn't buy two lunches. But guess its just part of life.

Then came home and just kept crashing, just didn't feel good. Not sure what was wrong, but finally got better. So it is good.

Today, got up, had breakfast, took Derrick and stayed to help. To the
4-h new members day. We were doing games for the little ones that came
as extra's and even the new members after they saw their leaders.

It was fun, Derrick had a ball, he loves that kind of thing. He is signed up
to help with what is called clover-buds which is for k-2 graders so he has
more fun to come.

Then just veged on the couch. Hubby just might get the taxes done on
time. WOW.

Hi Mari, Pam, and Bizi,

Mari, I'm sorry to hear of your hair dressers mom's passing.

Pam, you should always have your son so you shouldn't worry about being totally alone. Worry is hard for us though I know. It is hard to lose a mom and I know how hard it is not to worry about such things. I hope you have mostly good days to enjoy the pool.

Bizi, I can imagine how how hard it must be to drum up some business. How to you go about that? I wish you success.

I went to Patient First yesterday and today I went to the Dollar Tree.

Default long story about hair dresser

I''ve been seeing my hair dresser every 5 weeks for six or more years (can't remember exactly).
We are used to each other.

Once he told me a short version of his life story:
When he was a very small child during/after World War II, he and his family were forced to leave their home in Croatia and were put in a displaced persons camp in Egypt where they nearly starved.

http://www.egypttoday.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=6189

He remembers that some US soldiers showed up in tanks and gave him and his sister shoes.

At the end of the war, the family had to pick a country to move to.
They ended up in South America, learned Spanish and made a life for themselves there. Then of course they couldn't return to Croatia until the 1990s for even a visit because it became Communist.

Eventually, they moved from South America to Chicago and then to S. Florida.
My hair dresser's mother lived through a lot.
I was deeply sad for the family.
I'm feeling better now but I am still thinking about them.

Also, my hairdresser is only working three days a week and hard to schedule around my work hours. I worry that he will retire and leave me.

. . . .sounds nutty.
I have some family members from way back in my family tree who came to the US from Croatia, so I felt a connection to him when he first told me his story. I wonder if it would pain him too much too tell it to me again sometime.

I wonder if I should have tried to find out more about the memorial service for his mother.

As you can see, my head is very busy.
I need to go to sleep.
Laundry (and clean clothes for tomorrow is done.)

Mari,

I would send him a card. You could also check the paper for memorial information.

Mari

I think it was probably because Nikko has usually started our threads
for the weekends. And it wasn't started, and you thought.

WOW, we are going to miss a connection for this weekend, so I'll
start a thread, and then just added the community part.

It just makes us more connected. And also missing

NIKKO
