Default Nervous about Seninar

My DV counselor told me about a business siminar for people who are in business for themelves or who want to be in business for themselves. I plan to go but don't have the right business clothes to wear. If I can get some shoes I could wing the rest but my feet are so big it is hard to find shoes to fit me. I've been wearing men's shoes for some time now on count of how the woman's shoes just don't cut it. I also am nervous about being around all those business people but know I need to do this for myself if I'm ever going to have my own little business. I was nervous about going to my childhood friend's house for Thanksgiving and that turned out good so I know the worst part is the the anticipation of something uncomfortable happening.

Dear Befuddled,
I feel nervous about going to something new too. And I hate worrying about wearing the right shoes or clothes because I often feel that mine are all wrong.
But usually, the truth is that my clothes are good enough.

Is it possible that your shoes that you already own will work just fine?

Probably half will be ones looking for first time information just like you.
I'll bet very few will be dressed up in formal business clothes, just do your best with what you have.

Thank you Mari and Jo.

The only shoes I have that are not sandals are my tennis shoes. I'm going to go shopping though to see what I can find.

Dear Befuddled,
Getting some shoes sound like a good plan.
You can wear them other places anyway.
I home that you find benefit at the seminar.
When is it?

I think you will be fine, once you get there, and start meeting people and talking.

If you can't find shoes in stores, because of your size as you mentioned, maybe you can find some online.

When is the seminar?

Wishing you good luck Nikko

Thanks to all. The seninar is a week from today so I don't have much time. I haven't been feeling up to par to be going shopping and with the freezing temperatures I don't have motivation to go out. I'll do better this weekend, hopefully.

Barbara,
Do you have "dressy" sneakers that you can wear with slacks so that no one cares?
That's what I used to wear.
Or sandals that you can wear hose with or something like that?

I have not bought shoes in many years.

Keep in mind that it does not matter very much what you wear. They are reminding people to dress better than what they normally wear at home or to the store.

You will look fine.

Don't worry about the shoes. It's winter. They shouldn't expect the women to wear heels. The sidewalks can be slippery.

Good point Curious. I actually do not have a nice pair of tennis shoes but they're not exactly shabby either. I believe I will go ahead and wear them as they are all I have. Thanks guys.
