Hi,
I hardly ever go to sit down restaurants, but Firday I went to one for breakfast and loved it. It was unusual that I was up and out at the time but I was drvign home from sleep study. This little restaurant closes early afternoon around 2 or 3 pm so I do not see myself going back there. I need a restaurant that serves good breakfast in the evening. Do any of you know of any? I hate Denneys, IHOP, Waffle House. Any other ideas? Maybe I need to find another locally run place. My good memories come from breakfast food. Breakfast is relaxed. Dinner is busy and involves socializing and too many people -- even if it is just family. M. |

I LOOOOVE breakfast for dinner.
but, goodness, Mari, ![]() IHOPs and Denny's are my favs. Well, Denny's was more of a convenient hangout for us nightowls... there always seemed to be one within driving distance. I don't care for Waffle House myself, either. You might try Steak & Shake or Skeeter's. Both are 24 hour and both have moonlight menu type things. (I think Skeeter's is a chain but not sure.) Steak & Shake used to have the best Fried Biscuits (with maple syrup... or imitation, whatever). There's another classic one but the name escapes me right now. But i looooved IHOPS! Buckwheat pancakes... mmmm... blintzes, yummmm, and i love their coffee. Too bad the ones in my area quit being 24 hour... one time i even drove real far to get to a different one and found it closed. i'll see if my friends remember what the name of the other place was - also a chain and 24-hour one. they made/sold their own pies too, like Denny's does. the one i went to for a while closed and was a really long time ago. i didn't care for the actual sitting area much anyway but that will vary from place to place. the food was ok. Skeeters was really good. Oh, and ... does Dunkin Donuts still exist or what? they had really good coffee, although they use paper cups now. ![]() Heck now i'm wondering if steak & shake had eggs & stuff though. all i remember is those biscuits, which were like a snack dish. i'm not sure if they did breakfast stuff come to think of it. Skeeters definitely did tho. ~ waves ~ |

This chain is not large, but it is just fantastic...the food.
People line up out the door most of the time. The one in our area has a vegetable flan, that is fantastic. http://www.originalpancakehouse.com/ http://www.originalpancakehouse.com/locations.html I've had good luck with: http://www.bigboy.com/locations.asp I used to work midnights and it was very difficult getting 10am dinner entrees ...I found small local mom and pop restrauants to be the best for this. But occasionally I'd do Original Pancake House and get the hash.

I am thinking that a smaller diner or cafe would make whatever you asked for?? even if it isn't on the menu.
If you find a place you like ask them about it. income is income right??

what about bob evans?
do they still have those? Maybe you were thinking about a shoneys? I don't like ours. I used to love denny's studyed in them for school. I love IHOP for their swedish pancakes, if you like tart berries these are great! they are usually crowded though. I too love to have breakfast any time of the day. jeff doesn't though. In high school I worked at a pancake house they served these apple pancakes that were the size of a birthday cake, baked and sizzling iwht apples cinnomon and sugar. yummy! When ever I go home to visit the folks I have one....it is so good! beth

It is not anything I could eat weekly but one night we were out and my grandson saw what I ordered and so much for his happy face fries, lol. So we shared. I was in heaven!!!! I drool just thinking about that meal/ It is definatly one of the meals I would eat to smile and cheer up with. YUMMO, they do have great breakfast though anytime. Hi,
It seems that others like breakfast food too. I had pancakes once a long time ago at IHOP but didn't like them -- that was probably one of my fussy phases. I can go back. I've been to Denny's twice lately and ordered breakfast food and I enjoyed it, but I'm not fond of the sitting area either. I used to work at Denny's when I was a youngster and the menu theme is pretty much the same and I am comfortable with that. I did some googling: Cracker Barrel and Steak and Shake and Original Pancake House -- outside of my neighborhood but not so far away that I couldn't try driving there at least once. Years ago at Waffle House I had a burger. I haven't tried their breakfasts. On google, Waffle House looks a little far away. We have a family run Greek diner that can do breakfast food at night of course, but they close at 9:00 pm. They have good pancakes. I don't think that they have grits on the menu -- so for a pancake meal they are fine. I took hubby back to the nearby deli for lunch on Sat and I ordered the same breakfast I did on Friday. It was wonderful. hubby hated the place. It was small and crowded on a Saturday. I think his anxieties got kicked up by feeling a bit crowded. When I googled Dunkin Doughnuts, I found that there are a number of them near here. I don't drink coffee so I don't notice them when I am driving, but they would do in a pinch late at night -- have to find if they are open 24 hours here. The ones near-ish me are not full service kitchens for sandwiches and such -- I remember that. Still, I could check again. No Bob Evans ![]() No Big Boy ![]() I need to ask or keep my eye out or keep googling for Mom and Pop places. That's cool that others like breakfast foods out at restaurants too. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's a link I just found to restaurants and other stores that are open late at night http://www.verylate.com/chains.html M. |

Carbs at dinner make for good sleeping too. Remember that, it releases serotonin.
