Hi,,,Being a caregiver...AD, Dementia,etc... NEED a new washing machine, mine died this morning! I just got off the internet & they are quite expensive.
I have a Lot of wash to do everyday. I can NOT afford but will manage to get one in the $600-800.00 range. I wanted a top loader but figured you all would be the best in knowing what to look for. Any and all suggestions welcome! |

Dear gardengrl,
$600 - $800 US = $859.036 AUD - $1145.38 AUD Australian Dollars. I'm sure you can get something suitable for less than that? Surely... I wonder if there's some sort of buying guide you all have over there on the one site that someone else might know about. I'm so sorry I can't really help you. I'm in Australia and that is one expensive washing machine, I can tell you. You probably need one that will take quite a heavy load. That's where the cost will lie, in the size of the load. Better to get heavy duty if you need it, than have the washing machine stopping all the time because it can't handle the load. Sorry I'm no help really, but that's a lot of money to spend on a washing machine is all I can say. The one I have here is a Fisher and Paykel (local I guess and probably made in New Zealand so won't be over there) and it's 11 years old and it's very tiny and I've used it for myself and for my son and daughter for the majority of those years. These days I'd get something a little more efficient. Larger. Waste less water. Fuel efficient. Use less power. It's great that it's lasted me 11 years. Can't beat that really, but I'm sure in this day and age there must be a website out there that shows comparisons with water use, energy consumption etc. Whatever you get, make sure you have choice of water levels and speed as well so that if you really want to just do a small load, you can do that without wasting power and water. That's what I'd be looking for. Good luck. |

I've always had luck with Sear's Kenmore's, but my DS killed this last one young with repeated over loading (maybe DD and DH too) but my female visitor this weekend told me problems she had with Kenmore refrigerators, but she also swears she saw a fox with mange and nearly bald and another time a crazy man (I think it was our neighbor really) by our house.
I have Frigidaire front loaders that I love, which were $$$$, but my new downstairs living space required Stackables. Just baby whatever washer you get, never overload. I lost control, my boy killed it.

Hi Gardengrl, like Lara I live in a different country so my washing machine advice really won't help you very much.
One suggestion that might help though, is posting your request in the Social Forum. Not everyone visits this forum so you might reach more members that way. We also have a Classified section and here's the link to that one. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum55.html Good luck; I hope you get one soon.

There are many used appliance places that offer repaired machines, and many offer great promises of them working or being replaced at no cost to you. This way you could get one of those fancy machines, at a more reasonable cost. You can also go to Lowes and ask their sales staff. I have always found them to be dependable and honest about the products they sell. I am a Sears girl. I LOVE sears. they stand behind their products, and their products can take a beating. Whirlpool used to be a gold standard, but with all of the changes the company went through, it pushed Kenmore to the top rung of the ladder. I personally could never go back to the laundry mat and sit for hours to get my laundry done.
I hope those suggestions help.

AGreed! My front loader will do a HUGE king sized comforter, and have room to spare. As long as I can close the door, I can wash! I love my front loader because I dont have to stand over the top of the machine. I can sit in a chair and shove things in. its also a great water saver. Many top loaders can fit a huge load as well. I got the previous years model from Sears, and got a great deal since they were making way for the newer steam machines. I dont need steamers, so I made out.
