What did I do that was so terrible in life to deserve this?
My be the hints were out there, warning me to change my self- destructive life style - working 100 hours a week, not eating well, when I actually ate.Sleeping that was a luxury. Smoking 25 cigarettes on a good day. Living with unimaginable, relentless, never ending “stress”
My be in some crazy way this was an act of kicking me in the realities- It worked, I never loved life like I do now

Default it's not you John

John,
I can recall thinking the same thing as you, not too long ago. What got me out of the doldrums was learning that this happens quite frequently. I'm not quite sure what injury you have specifically, but I presume it is a serious injury may be related to the brain or spinal cord.

Life may seem very tough to you right now, but I promise you it gets better. I would never tell someone did that if it were not true. Our brains to heal. Granted, depending upon the severity of the injury, it takes time-sometimes a long time-but either way, we do get better.

I'll be happy to link you up with a support class you can go to like I do. In my town, there is Goodwill that offers a class for folks with brain injuries. Now, like I said I'm not quite sure of your injury, but I am sure that whatever injury you have there are supportive classes that exist for it.

I'm not talking about a supportive group that meets one time per month. That won't help you at all - well, maybe it will help for that one day but it sure as hell won't help much day after day. What I am talking about are classes that exist to help those of us who are newly handicapped.

If you would like some information, please feel free to e-mail me and I'll be happy to help you find the best outlet for you. I always want to help my fellow handicap man. let me know how I can be of help to you. First thing, tell me what state you live in because I live in Florida and if you live in the same state I do, it would be that much easier. But if not, don't worry!

Just use Nero talk to send me an e-mail and we'll take it from there.

Best of luck to you my friend & hang in there!

Joe

Why has no one pitched in to even so much as reply to this gentleman's desperate attempt to get help? This is awful... this guys request for help goes back about five months, and not one person offered any advice whatsoever. Folks, we are here to help our fellow man. Why did we leave John hanging in the wind to twist???

Can we please have some of the replies besides myself? This guy is in pain and needs help!! Is this not why we log onto the site? To help others and to also get help?

Folks, please look in your hearts and help this gentleman out to the best we can. Sometimes, we are all we have!

Hi JJ,

I hear you. I've been in constant agony since a terrible car accident a couple years ago. It is hard to explain to someone who hasn't experienced it, how chronic pain wears one down.

I went through a phase of "why me?" I didn't do anything to deserve what happened to me. I was just living my simple, quiet life until some selfish drunk ploughed into me. I thought, "I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time." The more I thought about that, the more I realized that it could have been anybody. Then I began to accept the randomness of fate and my thinking went from "why me?" to "why not me?"

The point is, these things can happen to any of us at anytime. All we get to decide is how we live with it. It's not easy, but coming here, and knowing you're not alone can help more than you might imagine. Here, you're among friends who understand.

Hang Tough

jj,
I hear you and totally understand how you are feeling. Ive been in pain for over 5 years, all because of a broken small toe. that has lead me to become bedridden. good news is that I can get up and about. Not well, and not for long, but I can. I'm getting a pain pump trial in 2 wks. and I'm hoping this will help me get back to doing simple things that I love to do. I know I'm a good person, and I don't know why I got this disease, but I did. sometimes, yes, I do think it would be easier to give up, but I can't. I'm to mean and rotten for that lol..come here and talk to us. at least we all are in the same boat, even if we all have different life jackets on. we are here to support each other.

Gentle Hugs
Mary

JJ,

I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time of it right now.

I've been there, but thankfully have moved forward. When I started my struggles with CP, I had no dx to explain the severity of my pain. I was being pooh-poohd by docs who told me it was all in my head. I was in a dark place then.

I'm not saying you should just 'toughen up' and just make yourself get happy about your current situation. For me, my solution was finding a good counselor to talk about a lot of issues I had going on. getting a plan for fixing those things, adding an antidepressant, and becoming certain that it wasn't all in my head. I did have to force myself to keep seeing different doctors until I finally found a few who had a clue and did not dismiss my symptoms. Having tests, getting dx'd, trying PT and nerve blocks, adding narcotics and neurontin, even finding NT and knowing that I wasn't alone in this......all of that changed my outlook because my pain was starting to be managed. Knowing that you have docs who are going to do their damnedest to let you have a functioning life again is HUGE !

Are you getting treatment for your pain ?

There is light at the end of the tunnel......I know that it's hard to see it at times.

I'm so sorry. I've been on and off the board for quite a while. I'm an old member and you can search for Silverlady and find all my posts. I've been where you are. Sometimes I still am. The trick to it is to get your pain adequately treated. Find a pain specialist and let them work there magic. I tried to cold turkey the treatment to spare my eyes. I suffer with extremely dry eyes. Don't be brave a pain specialist can help you.

No, God didn't pick you out that day to pick on. Fate does nasty things.
It's called "the luck of the draw". I've never quite understood that one. All my doctor said was "I'm sorry" and I'll see you later.

Good luck and come back to talk.
Billye

Default You are not alone

I hate to say this but I think everyone that suffers Chronic pain has either been in your situation,or after years of frustration,is still in your situation. I have been a chronic sufferer since birth ,starting with Scoliosis. That was painful enough, but then in my desperate seach to "not" have to go on narcotics;I found my way into a Chiropractors office, where I "really" got messed up.(Note: you can not straiten out ones back through cracking and stretching) Now I have no choice but to be on Med's.I've been on them for over 10 yrs now,so I've also suffered every side effect, and withdrawl;off every med.while I was re-setting my toterance, than I like to think about.I have been though every negative thought and emotion there is.I still have them on bad days. The best advice I can give is, if you know that you will be treated for life..give everything, and every treatment a fair shot at working.I have good Dr.s,lousy insurance.Unfortunately I am disabled for life, and feel sentanced to misery for the duration of it.So,I know where you are at,but all I can say is the worst thing you can do is stress yourself out .Stress=Pain.Try as much spiritual relaxation technics as you can bare, and try a support group, so you won't feel like you are the only one out there suffering.Keep in mind, there is always someone least deserving of suffering, suffering.(small children, animals, ect.) I do not know your ailment, but one thing I do know,is you are not alone;and most are here because we are all frustrated;and feel like no one else could possibly understand what it is like.

Hi JJ and Welcome to NT, although I am very sorry for the reason you are here. I got my RSD, like many others, following Surgery. That have been some studies on that, questionairres. The sympathetic nervous system reves up under stress, If we are under extrememe stress then have an accident, surgery, or whatever and our sympathetic nervous system in in overdrive, that is not a good place to be. It stayes in overdrive and doesn't calm down like it is supposed to be. To me, that explaines why some of us get RSD and why some don't
This is a group of wonderful kind and supportive friends. Sometime things come up and we aren't here for a while, I just stopped this writing today.
Something that may assist you is RSDSA It is the national organization. If you put your zip code, you can find the nearest support group meeting. Also, this can be a way to get Drs. names and addresses. Another help is rsdrx.com
and then go to puzzles list. It's 146 questions with Dr. Hooshmands answers. The Dr. of 40 years is now retired, but keeps his website up. Wonderful source of information. He is in Florida.
Please stay with us. Let us know about yourself and we will respond. Your friend, loretta with big hugs
