I just blogged "Pain is my Friend." It's about trying to make friends with your pain instead of fighting against it - but I realize when pain is really severe, an attitude adjustment doesn't do much to ease it.
I have chronic neck and back pain. Sometimes ice packs or heat packs help to numb it. Plus I take MSM which helps with most types of pain if you get a good brand and also Zyflamend a natural anti-inflammatory which helps some people. My daughter who has had 2 neck to tailbone back surgeries and is always in chronic pain, went to a pain management clinic and took some classes. I think it helped somewhat at the time. But like anything if you don't keep practicing the techniques it won't work. Sorry you are in so much pain and hope you find something that will help you.

Check this out for great Dr's---My wife was doing pill inventory---She came to my Pain ones---Umm they are a 1/4 of the strength they should be---Geez you could time it to when the wheels fell off-----As a cop---I would be on unpaid Admin Leave for that negligence-----But the Doc---He will just explain it away....What an amazing find---------
It was purposely--he always bitches about pain meds----Like UMMMMM they are the problem-----Sir your medical ineptness is the problem ----Duh!-- Then this is a crime to do to one----Yes we should seen---But me I am a vegetable----My wife works for the DA---Comes home cooks cleans takes care of the animals------Does what ever else needs to be done etc----It went right over her head...Until tinight--thank God!!

wow Pjames, what a find! hoping the bigger strength that is suppose to be in the pills helps better. I know between drs and pharmacists...once I was put on prednisone, suppose to have one bottle of 10mg (enough to use these for the 40,30,20 mg days) then suppose to have a bottle of 2mg (that she wanted me to take daily for a bit after the taper down)
so lucky for me I read things ... as I was tapering down, I noticed the bottle that says take one daily until dr changes, was a bottle of 20mg ones Well, to be on 20mg prednisone for weeks till see dr would have been a bit much I think..as also the steroids arent the best for body right. LUCKY I noticed...but this time it was pharmacy that made the slip, her paper said 2mg. hugss and good luck, body is painful now..so heading to bed...I work 6am-3pm tomorrow!! sarah

I understand the whining. My husband is my rock and he has been right beside me every step of the way. The pain in my face ( left side) is 24/7. After five years now we have been making the two hour trip to see a psychologist who use to be associated with Mayo clinic. Dr. Lemons has taught me how to relax
using tapes and think way beyond where you are. It is like a self hypnosis listening to them. They have helped a lot but it is a continuing process. Five years ago I had a microvascular decompression surgery due to severe trigiminal nerve pain in my face. It failed and I was right back with the hellish world of pain I thought I was going to be free of. I had to lay down, not move, not eat. After 10 days on a morphine pump, where I have no memory of we headed for Rochester Minn. to Mayo clinic. It was a 6-7 hour trip and I lay down in the back seat of the car. Two brain surgeries there and stayed three weeks. As a last resort, they severed the trigeminal nerve completely which caused left side of my face to be numb. I went from one hellish pain to the next as I now have anesthesia delorosa. It is rare , but that didn't stop me. Everday I take twenty pills. I finally got away from Methedone and Oxycontin and have no narcotics in my system. Two years ago, I had a surgery where they went in to move a few parts around. I stopped breathing twice and it probably is due to Methdedone I went to ICU on the vent. I recovered from this but was in the hospital for two weeks. When I partly recovered from this ( very weak ) I had brought something home with me . Influenza B. It went right to my lungs. So I was put back in the hospital with my oxygen level in the 80s. The next thing was developing restless leg syndrome, blood clot in my leg. After the flu I got pneaumonia, then for some odd reason I got Acid reflux disease. Soon after I fell and broke my pelvis, I ended up with one leg being shorter than the other. Now I walk with a cane. When I was in the hospital, I was MRSA positive. I took an allergy test last week and I tested for 27 allergys out of thirty. Thank you for reading my plite. Doodle bug7 |

I have been dealing with chronic pain and all that goes with it since 2000 and if I had it to do over again first of all I would never have confided in family and friends about the meds, I have been labeled a Junkie, fake, (but never failed a drug test or pill count) you name it from the ones that are supposed to love me! Before my surgery to get fixed (what a joke) I lost a lot of weight on a low carb diet, used a treadmill by using my pain meds to allow it and the endorphins were heavenly and let me decrease my doses and although it was still there I would not accept it and fought every step of the way and let a neuro surgeon talk me into a level 3 fusion that went south by his mistakes and now I would give it all to go back to where I was because now I am unable to do any exercise, and lost my hope, faith and dreams of being a nurse again and let myself slide into a very dark place, and I did it all, printed out letter to normal people and passed out to all concerned, have been in therapy for years so I guess what I am saying is just do whatever makes you feel good, makeup, perm, color, clothes, online shopping, I also play poker on my space with free chips since I am in bed 20 hours day and some days more! I stayed in denial much too long and ended up much worse. If you can't get support from friends or family then get it here, and never give up hope because sometimes its all we have, and getting pets were the best thing I ever did for myself, I don't think I would be here today if I did not have my little babys that love me no matter what! Just do some searches on here as I am sure there is tons of great info already there and you can read it and bump it up and it may help you or someone else!
Good luck with your journey, I hope you have more good days then bad!

liked your post, Junie. Haven't read many others as neck is too sore for computer use. Yet here I am!
The only ones who can appreciate chronic pain are fellow sufferers. It is a waste of time explaining it or trying to get understanding from "normals." You can see them switch off like lights in a power failure. For then to feel anything, you have to look ill. If you look OK, then you are-that's how they perceive you. I'm often amazed at how differently I can be and yet no-one notices or makes a comment. Talking can be difficult, so even though I may be very quiet and not participating, the rellies just go on with their own conversations and ignore me. Used to it now. There was a 'funny' occasion a few years ago when I went on a trip with them on an ex school bus that one of them owned ( and for which I paid the cost of an engine rebuild). My wife didn't go. The long days of travelling-they wanted to be out as much as possible-eventually took their toll and my headache started one night. I explained that It was very sore and went off to bed. Here is the good bit. The next day they all trooped off, right past my room and into the bus for another day out. Not one came in to see if I was OK or needed anything! I heard all of their chatter. One did ask where I was and the reply was that "he was up earlier and went to the toilet." And that was that. Come 5pm and they all rolled back in. This time their consciences must have been bothering some of them as some of them came in to see how I was. Even brought a few gifts. I was very, very annoyed and disappointed. They were all well aware of my neck and back problems for many years. I'm only related by marriage. But would they have treated one of their siblings the same way? I cannot imagine that they would have gone away in the same day if one of the elderly sisters had not emerged form her room. So that taught me a good lesson about how others see you. You really have to cope on your own, though hopefully a partner would be able to be sympathetic. These forums are a great place to tell your story anonymously and to vent a bit, which I think is very important.

Thanks, Peter,
I did go on a long 10 day trip to the beach last summer and it was with my sisters and I was treated exactly the same way! Never again, next time I go anywhere it will be by plane and a rental car when I get there!
