I've tried to look up a few things lately and now i only get the "new" BT" posts.

I was just wondering if anyone else has tried to search for old cached posts lately.

Some are not available on Google anymore.

And you cannot use WayBack Archives either.
The WayBack engine will give you (as of 2 wks ago) an old INDEX...
but if you click on that index you get current postings. That is for the
post 3-04 threads.

Makes one wonder doesn't it? I am not a computer person, but the changes do look like someone is doing them, don't they?

I don't use that method that you posted..the site:brain thing...however, and some of my old things are available with simple keyword searches, still.

I'm not 100% certain how Google/Wayback Machine do their caching, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt.

By putting the new forums online without restoring the old database first, they ensured the old caches would eventually expire as Google finds new pages with the same ID as the cached page and replaces it with the new BT posts. This is expected, normal behavior for Google, but it unfortunately destroys Google's history of the old BT.

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I don't mean it to come across as bashing or anything, but given the history of events over at OBT, I think it's important people keep informed about that community's continued reliance on a single point of failure.

As far as I can tell, very little has changed in terms of how BT's administration of its server hardware and software has changed in the months since coming back online. A month ago, Mike Weins said the forum software would be upgraded to the latest version (they are 3 versions behind right now), and then they'd look at the old database issue.

It was changed to "over the holidays" the software would be upgraded. Then a week ago, it was "we'll upgrade the software soon." Meanwhile, the software version they are on remains vulnerable to known security issues. Because the entire community remains in the hands of one very busy, busy person.

And still no work on the old database.

DocJohn - thank you for this information. Even though I don't post there anymore (and never did that much), I did and still do read the PN posts so I can keep as informed about my condition as possible. There was so much information that I kept referring back to that I now wish I would have kept in a file on my computer.

I picked up on the timeline statements also and remember reading at one point that, and I quote, "the database of the posts made here from March 11th, 2004 until June 10th, 2006 are protected and safe." http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/...read.php?t=703 (post #2)

I believe that the continual statements of when something will be done or talked about with JL and then put off until.....is what was/still is so frustrating for people.

Exactly why I, for one, have been trying to build up OUR database by posting questions, etc, in my own forums of interest. I really don't think we can rely on ever getting access to the OBT data. We'd do better to be building up our own data base here, in a stable community which is not likely to pull the rug out from under our feet!

I agree, it's best to try and duplicate as much information as possible that is helpful to others, because at the end of the day, that's what it's all about -- helping others with these issues.

I have no doubt they still have the old database, my only concern is if they are ever going to put any effort into publishing it and keeping their forum software/hardware updated and maintained.

I have been rebuilding my posts here slowly, with the most critical ones first.

Thanks for your explanations. It is very generous of you to do this for us, and for those who can ultimately use this information!

What bothers me is that much of the information lost were specific personal posts...to unique problems. These were scattered throughout the forums,
and most people did not save those. Much in the medical world is anecdotal, but these add up and are very crucial when ONE becomes the anecdote!

Well, this is interesting! I had over 1,500 posts on the old BT & every now & then I come across some of them when I'm doing a google search so I know they are out there somewhere!

I'm computer dumb as can be but just grateful we still have these forums at all!

I may be weird but I kinda wish my old posts were gone for good....I wrote alot of stuff that I don't really want to encounter forever more.

It is a huge loss on the information/research though....appreciate all of you trying to rebuild the info!

Buttons, I had over 2000 post and I, like you just as soon they all go poof! I did go back sometime ago and deleted some post and threads and I am glad I did.

It was personal things, but it was a difficult subject and needed to be discussed. What I had posted on the ones I deleted were a help to others that were going thru these very bad situations. I was much older than most of the members and felt just maybe I could help some of the younger members.

I had no clue the dang site was going to crash but I got this strange feeling that some of these post were maybe being used in ways they wern't intended.

I explained to some of the other posters why I deleted them. Many followed suit and did the same.

I don't have a clue where I was going with this If Google were to pick this post up it would file 13 it and say wow, just another dizzy blond!

I first encountered Braintalk back in the "wild west" days where you didn't have to regester to post. We have had 2 or 3 crashes and the data has ended up lost or inaccessable. The medical conditions I have are chronic and this has hurt. Recently I was going to try to get coverage of a medication dosage that posts from the OBT would have supported. I don't like to bash either; but the harm done it great.
