Exclamation Help

Hey, some of you may know me by WDS. I am here looking for some real advise! I have gotten remarried and now I have an 8 year old step son that is suffering from his bipolar depression. He's been placing himself in harms way, IE running away from school, running away in the middle of the night and other things like that. While at school he tends to get a bit violent, with the other kids, when he's in his mood.

He's in the hospital now and will be there for 30 days, maybe 90 days. There is a study that is going to be starting here in St. Louis within the next 30 days, its being run by Washington University. Do you think it would be a good idea to bring him here to Missouri to place him in the study? He lives in Tennessee with his mother, who is not helping him until he is in trouble. Shes not much help!

PLEASE ANY IDEAS OR THOUGHTS WOULD BE AND ARE WELCOME ...

IN HIM
Debbie

I think his mother, who has guardianship, needs to make those decisions. His father may impact on the decisions but not you unless both parents have agreed that you are to be a part of decisionmaking. Sorry.

Post Seek expert opinion

Bipolar Disorder is difficult to treat even using all modalities. A concerted effort from all parents is necessary, along with advice from the child's doctors, imo. JD

Red face

There is a bipolar forum here and at the lold forums that has a subforum for children with bipolar. I would encourage you to post there when open and here.
I would reccomend the treatment facility, 8 is old enough to control his behavior within a structured environment.
all parties involved could use therapy to help better understand this childs needs and tools to better cope in all regards.
I wish you well....
